I am in the process of recreating a tribute Nostalgia NHRA race car I ran in the 70's. GMC 302 six cylinder with side draft triple Weber carburetors. Clifford no longer makes the side draft intake manifold. Anyone know where I might find a set?
There is a 292 set on eBay now It could be adapted.

Thanks for the info! Looks like the carbs need a rebuild. Hopefully, Weber sells a rebuild kit.
Tell us more about your old racer. Make? Class? Times?
We raced nhra on the east cost during the 1970's in modified eliminator. The class designation changed over the years as nhra expanded. We started in J gas and ended up in m gas by 1982 when we stopped. We ran a gmc 302 bored out and ended up with 320 cubic inches. Triple side draft webers, Clifford intake,Sissel lump port, Dana rear,Doug Nash 5 speed. We set the national record many times and our best time was 11.31 128 mph in the quarter mile. Our car and driver weighed 3200 lbs, if you do the math, that equates to about 435 hp! Pretty awesome for a six banger!
My dad, Poppa Zack , passed away last year so I came up with this brainstorm to resurrect our first car which was a 1967 nova. I plan on taking it to Nostalgia drags and cat shows next year.
That last picture is at the Grove correct? The overhead crossover bridge is the giveaway! Very cool picture!
When I worked for Headrick, one of his business partners raced a 302 GMC in a '67 Camaro in Modified around that same time.
Correct
Maple Grove dragway!
I don't remember the 67 Camaro
Headrick sounds familiar
Was that a speed shop?
I remember a guy named Cotton Perry who ran a six cylinder from the south. Not sure what state.
That's it! Perry & Headrick Pocket Rocket ChevyII with a 292 from Georgia. John, you also have a PM. Thanks.
Cotton was the man in modified !!
He sure was! When NHRA did away with Modified and he moved up to Comp Eliminator, he did very well in that also with a rear engine dragster with the 292 out of the Pocket Rocket in it.
Nice rides. Good luck with your re-creation. I especially love the 6-'Vette. I'll bet that garnered lots of deer-in-the-headlite looks and questions. I remember Pizza John's '54 Vette with a six too.
Got a lot of attention at the track. Nothing like the sound of a Jimmy screaming down the track at 6500 RPM. Had to change cranks every 20 runs.....
Well race fans,
I have been a member of Inliners less than a week and it has already paid off.
CNC dude has set me up with a raw casting for the no longer in production intake manifold I was looking for.
Thanks Scott!!
GMC 6 will be screaming down the quarter mile this spring!
Glad to help out! You'll be rippin' down the track in no time.
John, Welcome and thanks for the pics. Keep us posted on the updates with the Nova. Some cool rides there.
Thanks. Will do.
I will post pics as the build continues.
Anyone have a set of headers for a 302 gmc?
