Greetings . . .

Here’s something one doesn’t see every day – an Offy F1 engine:

The engine is modular:

Side cover over the water-jacket is a curious detail – does it make the casting easier?

Four valves per-cylinder

According to the auction the bottom end is available too:
ebay auction - seller montereyspeedandsport

The posting references the Scarab F1 team – driver Lance Reventflow. A google search found this trading card:

This engine would certainly be a cool project to get running again – depending on the scope of one’s pocketbook . . .

I'm trying to figure out how the cylinder head is held on to the block? I see tapped head bolt holes in the block but no head bolt holes in the head. What gives?

I know some Offy designs had the head cast as part of the block but this does not look like one of them. Is the head and block from the same engine? Hmmm.

Hi FTF . . . The auction doesn't offer any pictures of the head separate from the cylinder block. All of the pictures show it attached - but no indication of how. The picture showing the bottom of the cylinder block (complete with tapped bolt holes) show how the crank-case is attached.
