I would like some feedback on the pros and cons on running a integrated head on a 250 six chevy motor. Will it fit on any of the 250 six motors ?? Does it flow better ? I have heard it is prone to crack...I have both heads and want to use the best one..I also have a 165 hp marine 250 six..Is the cam different ?? I wonder where they pick up the extra 15 hp ?????SCRAP

there are no pros to running a stock integrated head on a 250. If u port/polish, enlarge valves and adapt a 2bbl right to the log head, then u may have a half decent head...thats probably cheaper than getting a new better flowing intake, but u need to do these things to see any proper performance. The biggest fallback of the inlines is the head...and lack of breathing. and when u ask if it will fit on any 250 motors, do u mean chevy to ford or vice versa? easiest way to check if heads will swap is to go to a parts store and compare head gaskets. I have yet to see a cracked log head...unless thats a chevy thing....hehehe, just kidding

Yes the integrated is prone to cracking Esp. if it get Over Heated. If you try porting it to clean it up. You will miss alot or could. Because the ports can't be cleaned up from both directions Like you can on a non integrated head. Some of the Heads also came as 2b carb. And Yes they will fit any of the chevy 6s 194,230,250,292
But could still end up with a head that doesn't flow very will (stock intake sys,Stock exhaust sys) Where as the Other Head You can Have a better flowing exhaust Duals (headers, Or stove Bolt) Your pick of Intake systems.
Hope this helps }[oooooo]

OK...I think I will ditch the integrated head idea and use the "other head" style. I have 2 of the open port heads (different casting numbers). Are all these head the same or is there one that was better than the rest??? Just want to have the best stock stuff the first time...SCRAP

Check the casting numbers link on the left column of the web page. You will find that a lot of heads have the same valve and port sizes but the chamber volumes differ. Generally speaking for any kind of performance increase you might as well start out with the the smallest chambers as they offer the higher compression. That also allows you to unshroud around larger valves and not end up with as low compression ratio as you would have if you started out with the big chambers. Just about all the 230 and 250 heads had the same size ports and 1.72 / 1.50 valve arrangement. Minor differences would be the chamber sizes and accessory holes depending on the year and original application of the engine.
