Hi

I'm looking for a Cgevy 250 roller camshaft, i tried to find one on many manufacture's sites (comp, crane, crower e etc) but it seems the only way to get one is by custom order, is that right? anyone could give a help to find a roller cam to my engine?

thx

That is right all roller cams are a special order.Unless someone is selling one Used or just desided not to go that route.

Edi!!! Meu bruxo!!!
Até tu por aqui??

Edy is a good friend of mine. He´s making a nervous 6 cyl turbo with BERTA 12 port Cylinder Head, huge ball bearing turbo, Haltech and some other hardcore racing parts only for street.

(Hank.... remember that cylinder head that I´ve sent you some photos?? Edy got it to put in his car...).

Yes I remember that cyl head, those ports are huge!!!!

Nice!
Does that Opel come w/a 250 6 cyl. inline Chevy engine?
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/20/06 03:54 PM
In Brazil yes! it used to come with a MPFI 250 6 cyls.
Do you have any pics of the engine?
Maybe post a few here.
We never had a MPFI straight six Chevy 250 here in the states.

The Chevrolet 4.1 MPFI is a sweet little engine, developed by General Motors in Brazil, and only manufactured locally. It's unfortunately no longer produced though...

Great updates were added, to list a few:
- Bosch Motronic 2.8.1 MPFI Fuel Injection
- 12 port head
- 6" rods
- lighter (and shorter pistons)
- thinner piston rings
- 1 piece rear main seal
- serpentine-type accessory drive
- split exh manifold (2x 3x1)
- ...

Nice pictures!
Is that your engine?
Do you have any pics of the cylinder head by itself?
Thanks
Hank

From the looks of the pictures. The block looks like it is a Mex. block (like the 292 Mex.block same casting marks) & as for the Head an Intake runners It looks Just like the U.S.(not a divided port??) But all in all Nice Pictures.

Yes, it is my engine, but we are 5,000+ miles apart... and I miss it badly!

I don't have pictures of the cylinder head on hand, but this is a true 12-port head (required for MPFI) and I have seen pics of it posted on this forum. Chevrolet PN's are 93.238.389 (complete) and 93.205.909 (bare). It was only produced around '95-'98, Brazil only.

There's not a straight relation between the Mexican block and the engine update done in Brazil. The Mexican engine is basically the same once produced in U.SA., still carries the same the old 2-piece real seal, etc...

You are welcome!

This engine was update by Lotus under chevrolet request! some people say that a DOHC (250 HP)version of this engine was maede but never produced. Once i've sent an email to Lotus, asking id that was true, and if they could send me some especification of that head, but the said "Sorry, thats confidential information" :-(
What are the HP & torque numbers stock of that Brazillian engine?
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/23/06 10:20 AM
168HP@4500 RPM
210lbsft@3500 RPM
Roc On The Rocks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
where did you get this engine ,& how much did it cost you?
Is the engine in Brazil?
Are some of the parts interchangable?
Posted By: Roc On The Rocks Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/26/06 12:21 PM
Yes Hank, this engine is the only one left from my small collection (2x Chevrolet 4.1 MPFI and 1x Chevrolet 292) in Brazil. I seriously tried, but it was way too bureaucratic to bring them to U.S. along with my household goods last year. My 4.1 MPFI’s were acquired in 2000, for about one grand or so (US$). They were very low mileage, pulled from Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks that were converted to Diesel power (the 4.1L is kinda a gas guzzler in Brazil, since gas over there has always been more expensive that in U.S. – about US$ 3,80/gal!). Since they were produced for a short time, they are getting scarce rapidly.

The higher production version of the GM 4.1 MPFI engine equipped the Chevrolet Omega passenger car in Brazil. This engine is nearly identical to the truck engine (except for PCM calibration and cam specs, among other smaller details), but it had an inconvenient narrower bell housing mounting pattern, making it incompatible with the rest of SBC/BBC pattern.

Anyway, most vital parts of the Chevrolet 4.1 MPFI are 100% interchangeable with the “standard” L6 family (194/230/250/292).

I used the other 4.1 MPFI on my old Chevrolet Opala, mated to a 5-speed. I drove it at the first time on Aug 29, 2000, making it a pioneer in Brazil. I’d drive it sometimes only twice a year, and after inflating leaky tires and charging the battery, the car would be pure joy and rock reliable. The sleeper had a lot of potential (turbo was on the plans), but even in stock form it was an ass kicker and rubber burner.

PS.: Forgive the messy wiring harness, it wasn’t final yet.

Roc On The Rocks

I have the same problem with the bolt pattern, some people say to change my "omega's block" by a "silverado's block" some people say that there is no need for this, because it's easy to adapt the trasmission (TKO 600) to the engine. i wonder who is right! do you have any advice about this?
Need to find what bolt pattern that is, maybe Toyota has the same bolt pattern?
Does Douglas know about the bolt pattern spacing?
I am sure someone has or makes an adapter.
Good luck!
What type of trans does the Omega come with? 3speed ,4 spd, overdrive? electronic control?
Does the bell housing unbolt from the tranny?
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/28/06 10:24 PM
the bolt pattern is a Opel bolt pattern, in brazil Chevrolet changed the bolt pattern to match the Opel 3.0 liters ohc engine, so the 3.0 transmission could be used on the chevy 250.
i know some people who does and adapter! here is commom to use a Dodge charger transmission into turbocharged chevys 250, so it's not so difficult to find someone who does the adapter, but my question is, does it works fine? will i have problems later with this adaptation?
It used to come with a 5 speed and a 4 speed automatic version
Edy,,,,,,,,,,,,
What is the original transmission called?
700R4? 4L60-E?
The 5 speed, is that a manual transmission?
What is the Dodge charger transmission called?
a 904, 727, or the newer 4 speed auto's?
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/30/06 10:10 AM
Hank

The automatic transmissions were

93-97 4L30-E
98 AT4AR25 (last year)

The 5 speed is a manual trasmission. About the charger transmission, i have no ideia about the model!

I asked for a roller camshaft at compcams. i asked for a cam for a turbocharged chevy 250, for maximum power at 7000-7500rpm, i've got the answer today, take a look

264/260@.050 .710/.710 115lobe.

What do you think about that? i was reading Leo Santucci's chevy power manual, and i've found a dyno sheet of a chevy making the maximum power at 7500RPM the camshaft used as 288/296@.050 .470 .470 112lobe. i was expecting something like that from compcams. do you think that the camshaft adviced by comp will make the maximum power at the rpm band i need (7000-7500)?
That my friend is a huge cam, almost as big as Douglas's :-)
It will easily go to 7500 rpm w/a turbo!
I take it you do not want a smooth idle & you are going to run a really loose converter?

Can Compcams get a camshaft for you?
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 08/30/06 11:06 PM
:-)

I hope so! but i'm still concerned about the comp's adviced camshaft! i hope it works! i don't need a smooth idle! ;-), no need of converter! i will be using a manual transmission! they give the core part number and the grind number! now i just have to find a dealer!

Roc On The Rocks, Will that head bolt to a state side 292? If so wouldn't it be easier to bring the top end to the states.

I need to find now a dealer to order my custom camshaft, you guys from US, can you point me Comp Cam dealer other than summitracing, jegs and etc? i need a smaller dealer so i can ask the dealer to send the camshaft to Brazil declaring a lower value of the camshaft (in brazil the taxes are about 70%) big dealers won´t do that, but small ones does!
Posted By: Edy Re: Roller Cam for Chevy 250 - 09/01/06 07:35 PM
Hank

I asked comp for the rollecamshaft the price for the core waas something like 860 core+grindding. if you go to comp´s site the core is available!

edy
Edy,

I looked @ their website & only saw hydraulic & solid camshafts. I must be looking for it the wrong way???? Hydraulic & solid lifters, no roller anything.
I do not need a camshaft now, but for future needs I would like to know where to get one.

Hank,

take a look

http://www.compperformancegroupstores.co...&Category_Code=
