does anyone know of anyone else besides Larrowe & sons, that makes a supercharger intake manifold for a 235/261. I talked to Larrowe & sons and he said he has to make the mold for it again, and he said he wasnt sure if he was going to make it or not.just wondering if anyone else makes a manifold like that, or if i was better off running a centrifugal supercharger?

I'm not aware of anyone else currently making one, but there is someone on Ebay who keeps trying to sell a vintage one for big bucks. I can't remember the brand name of it.
I have seen guys take a Clifford 4bbl intake and make an adapter to use a blower on it.

yeah i just took a look at the one on ebay and he wants too much for it almost double the price Larrowe & sons wants for it.

why not try and turbo it. it doesn't have quite the blig factor but does have the reliable power. tom

Greetings . . .

I think that one on ebay is an Italmeccanica/S.C.O.T. manifold (full back page ad from Speed Age July 1950):

although my research doesn't confirm a pop-off valve as part of this design. At any rate if it is a vintage S.C.O.T then it's a 216 manifold so it would need to be reamed out to fit a 235/261. Also, I am not sure how it got seperated from the blower it came with in kit form. These guys are still in business: SCOT/Italmeccanica so it may be possible to order a new production roots type blower that will fit that manifold which is out on ebay. Of course money would be no object here . . .

As far as I can tell, these are quite rare units - hence the price.

Dear Steve;

It's going to cost as much to 'build up' the 'bottom end' as any "charger" set up.

If you want that kind of inline you need a GMC or 250/292 to start off.

Good luck. \:\)

If you just want to do it for the bling, which is all a blower on a street inline engine is going to give you, I think a 235-261 will give you a winner and a looker!

I would do it!

Joe;

It would cost thousands just to get one "up & running" and almost the same to make it work (guts out) for cosmetics.

The guys that build these (Blown or Tubro) engines have the resources, conections and money (a lot) to do that with.

It's an "impossible dream" for the novice.

I agree; It's fun to dream though. \:\)

Actually, there's a guy in MN with a 1950? Chevy car with a small Weiland/B&M style blower adapted to a 4bbl intake like I described. It has a stock bottom end and very little head work done. He had it on a dyno and got 325hp out of it with about 5psi of boost, if I remember correctly. He used a flat style belt, with the crank pulley bolted onto the front of the damper, and replaced the water pump pulley with some factory unit. Apart from the cost of the blower itself, it looked like a pretty cheap and simple setup to me. It doesn't require the space or have the tuning issues or special parts that you would need if you were to go with a turbo (on a 235/261 that is).
To use that 216 SCOTT manifold on a later 235/261, all you need to do is buy/make a set of stepped adapter rings. The difference in size is so small, that it shouldn't matter for street use, especially when you consider the air is being forced in.(in this case).

firstly ,supercharging an inline(no matter what type)is not expensive or exotic.check out e-bay for superchargers.eaton M90's or M112's go for around the $800 mark and setting them up on a 4bbl manifold is very easy,use a flat serpentine belt,a discarded con rod with a late model flat belt pulley(bolted to the small end) as an idler pulley,"o" ring the head(to aviod blown head gaskets),richen up the carby and basically you can do it(i did in my home workshop).after a lot of trial and error(installed an air flow meter to get the mixtures correct)test driving was a lot of fun and believe me it's the cheapest and easiest way to make a LOT of horsepower.you certinly don't need forged pistons or any exotic gear(if you keep the boost low-under 5lb's-even this is enough to increase you HP by 50%)cost,apart from the price of the blower, was less than $500(depending how much you can do yourself)buy any one of the good publications on street superchgarging or talk to someone who's done it-you really won't regret it! \:D
Maybe you guys recall that Mel Petterson had a 1966 red Nova in a Hot Rod shootout several years ago.Really nice car!
He had a 292 punched out to a 301 B&M 144 Blower mounted to a Clifford intake manifold.
He probably had about $3000 just in the blower setup pullies, tentioner etc.

That was a do it yourself set up =not cheap. New parts throughout.
Sure, you can scroung around & find stuff pretty cheap,, but you are taking a risk when buying a used blower.
Those M90's or M112's are pretty small blowers BTW

i have the M90 overdriven 250%(2 1/2 times crank speed)and on my 277 cu in it will make 8.5lb's of boost(aluminuim head,big cam etc)combined with 9.5:1 compression ratio(105 octane propane fuelled)makes heaps of power and is still very streetable.i would like a 112 eaton, but more boost without lowering the comp ratio is out of the question.at the moment 0-60 mph comes up(in first gear-904 torque flite)less than 5 sec(pure street rod)and to be honest if i had more HP i wouldn't drive it any faster(scares the hell out of me when the wheels brake loose!)

whatabout useing the blower off the factory bonniville cars? I have one laying here and it still has the TB on it. At one time i had plains on useing it. BUT not any more. If i pressure feed anything it will with the turbo i have.

I fabricated a sheet metal intake for a straight 8 Buick, with a GMC 4-71 blower, check out photos on my web site---geocities.com/garyhartracing-----Good luck

thanks for all of the input guys just to jet you know, I know what it takes to build the bottom end of a motor for a blower/turbo app. iv been around drag racing since I was a small child.I am also an engineer for a cruise line. I have already built my 235. it is 60 oversized with cliford with the clifford rebuild kit. all forged pistons and rods ext... I have a borg warner 80mm turbo, but really want the look of a blower. thanks for the info.

Any one ever hear of Judson making a supercharger that would fit a 235? I know they sold them for VWs and Corvairs. I think I located one that the guy says it is for a chevy model C.O. I am thinking that means Cab Over. The intake and the carb look right.
