As some of you know the only off the shelf cams for this engine come from GM.

Another 4200 user and myself are going to get some custom cam blank cnc cut and if anyone wanted to get in on the buy the time is soon to speak up with cash in hand. The blanks are $400 per pair. Then the grind is another $700 to $900 for the pair so not cheap. Of course if there was enough volume then the cost will come down but, right not as far as aftermarket parts go, these are orphan engines.

I'm in for at least 4; can you shoot me some more of the specs as far as material, finishing, etc?

I'm sure they could but why ??? Cam blanks exist for this series engine. Unless the supply is exhausted why pay $800 for a finished cam when comp cams will do a finished cam for ~ $200.. ??/

Jeff,

The buy is for blanks only at this point in time, they are steel blanks CNC machined. Are you interested in 4 cams or 4 sets?

Comp Cams will finish grind the cams. We are looking for alternative. Suggest you start calling to as the more voices that call for parts for the 4200 the sooner they might start making parts.

Marc

PS: just curious which parts your after from Jerry.

Last year at PRI I talked to a guy at Comp who said he was going to do them (then I was sent to Iraq, so no cams for me!). I'll have to dig out his name / #... Note to self: next engine build will be something that is IMPOSSIBLE to get an off-the-shelf cam for (my last setup was the OHC that the Fbird came with)

Cams: 2 intake / 2 exhaust. Are these 8620? What follower are you looking to run- a solid Bates piece or some of the Jesel's? The lash adjuster and follower are the same as the Ecotec- so some homework has been done.

Jerry: When I last talked to him, he said he had flanges for both the intake and exhaust side, the billet flywheel, and best of all- intake runner extrusions. I'm making a manifold similar to the engine Self racing built for John C.

Drop me an email- I'd like to talk to you about a few other items & future prospects.

I'm planning on running either the stock or ecotec follower. I don't plan on turing the engine much harder than 6500 rpm... I'll let the boost make the power down lower.
