I am bout done with my 65 292, I had the original side covers powder coated, when I went to put in the new HEI unit it hits the side cover, is there an aftermarket side cover that will allow the HEI unit to fit?? I have the rebuilt distributor that langdon sells..help..

I believe Langdon sells side covers that have a crescent cut in them behind the distributor. Look for posts by 63ChevyII, he has pics of his 292 that he is putting in his Nova. Here's a link to pics of a 292 side cover with clearance for an HEI;

Why not use a divorced HEI module - it does not have to go inside a big fat distributor. I am using one on my '46 Ford truck. It is really easy to wire up. See http://www.gofastforless.com for details. Good luck.

I have stock side covers on mine with no problem that I can remember. Looking at mine. it looks like the cap bulge for the hold down tangs might be very close if I had to turn it that far. As it is, it's been good for years.
I have the external coil type the Langdon sells to clear the AC pump. I used to have an internal coil HEI distributor and it was OK as well.

Thanks for the info,, im sure as long as i set the timing right I should never need to turn it that faar anyways,, again thanks to all.. this website is great...
