hi guys, i am building a 292 Powered FED for soume fun "low buc" dragracing, frame is near done so now its time to build the motor. looking for any ideas or performance tips ?
plan is to run the 292 cylinder head and install port lumps,
try and find some propane pistons, offy manifold with an edelbrock 600 all running thru a powerglide.
but hey - open to all suggestions, have read lots but really just more confused. 292 head ok or ?? prorpane pistons or ?
i am in Brisbane Australia so parts access and information is pretty limited. appreciate any help you guys can offer
cheers greg
What vehicle is the engine going in?

Hank, I'm guessing he means Front Engine Dragster when he says FED.

So fairly light.

yep - front engine dragster so it will weight in at around 1400-1500lbs ( can anybody tell me the weight of a 292 ? - have looked on the internet and have weights ranging from 440--680lbs)
Duggan head near on impossible to find, have spoken with Duggans in Melbourne Australia and they have no plans to re-produce these.

so will stick with 292 head with some major porting and lumps.

anybody got any ideas for me ??
cheers Greg

How much HP do you want to make....

thinking around 300 minimum as a good starting point but the more the merrier !!!

Greg,

Try a 4.30 gear with 12 x 31 or 33 slicks.
Also try a smaller carb than the 600 if you plan to use a hydraulic cam. And maybe a 5000 RPM stall converter - more if roller cammed. If you are using the 1.82 'glide weld the ends of the pinion shafts to the planetary carrier with silicon-bronze rod to make it live. 300 HP at the rear wheel should get you into the 9.70 - 9.80 range.

Good luck

With the cam and carburetion it takes to get 300 hp you would be hugely disappointed with a 2000 stall converter. A 4000 stall is the absolute minimum I would recommend, 5500 will work better. Just for grins try a stock converter (probably around 1600 - 1800 rpm) just before you try a hi-stall. It will really give you religion.
