Hope to start new project the end of Feb. Building a 3x2 tubing frame for a 48 KB7 international cab. What I'm looking for is a intake & exhaust flanges for the 39 buick straight 8. And any info on what tranny's will work with it? I have a 5speed out of a Merc Capri was hoping to use it if possible.
There are (3)straight 8's, which are you needing flanges for?
The engine came out of a buick special- think it is a 230cid-will check it when I get home.
They make a 248,263 and a 320. Check it out real good as just knowing it came out of a Special wont narrow it down enough to know for sure.
CNC,dude- I'l get back to you when I get back to Oregon, In Texas right now. thx Norm
CNC Dude - I finally got home last weekend. The buick st8 engine I have, has a 31-5/16" long head and a bore of 3-1/8". Guess that would be a 248" with a over bore. Now that we know it's a small engine. Do you have or know where I can get exhaust and intake flanges? Or does someone make headers for it? Next I need to get it apart. It's time to get the wooden dowels an 5 lb hand sledge out once I get the crank out. Later Norm
Ok, I have them for a 320 engine. If you measure the intake & exhaust ports, i'll see if they might interchange. No headers available, you'll have to make them yourself.
CNC Dude: Just got the manifolds off. Got the gaskets out- both end gaskets are Victor 12159 and the center gasket looks to be a Victor 9622. Do those match your 320?? If not I could send them 2 you in the order they came off and spacing. Norm
320 Flanges will not fit it. The 320 is about 8"longer. I have a 1941 dual intake manifold if your interested
Were talking about individual port flanges, not a 1 pc. style.
Oh no problem, we are still a little unclear whether the port sizes are the same on the smaller Striaght 8's as the 320 engines.
CNC Dude: Here we go. The bolts are 3/8" and the exhaust and intake ports are both 1.20" could be 1.25" haven't got the head dipped and cleaned yet. There are gaskets for my 248" at NAPA, FelPro fpg-ms2498b also the gaskets that came off were Victor 12159 on both ends and a 9622 in the middle. The spacing between the each gasket was 3/4". I Could make copies of the gaskets that came off the head and send them to you or send a set of new gaskets. Norm
CNC Dude: The studs are 3/8' and from the front going to the back the spacing is-2 1/2"-3 1/2"-2 1/4"- 5 1/4- 2 1/2"- 2 1/2"- 5 1/4" - 2 1/4"- 3 1/5"- 2 1/2". This is close as I'm working with a machinist ruler. Are we anywhere close?? Norm
The ports are much smaller than the 320 engine, and the spacing is also different. I'll pm you with mailing instructions. Thanks
64 dart: I THINK I just sent you a PM.
64 Dart, i have sent you a PM.
God's Peace to you.

Go to a metal working shop that has a waterjet machine and have them use your old gasket as a pettern and cut you a new one. I like to use stainless steel for mine.

He sent me an email back in April saying he was sending me the parts to make these flanges for him, but never did. And I haven't heard back from him since, even sent him some emails inquiring what happened. Musta' lost interest or life got in the way....
Hello All: Yes Work/life/health got in the way. But I am still want to get this st8 together for next year. I'll contact you all later this month. When will the 2014 SCTA/BNI reg-book be published? la8r Norm
Usually not until after the first of the year. Just call their office to get on the list.
I had my intake/exhaust flanges waterjet cut. I took the original gaskets to them and they programed the wj.
He was wanting me to make them for him.
