Hey does anybody know if a 4 pin HEI with vacuum advance can be replaced by a GM DIS system from the 3800 V6?

I'd like to get rid of the distributor on my 250

Dear Luis;

An HEI system won't be cost-effective on that unles you are in below freezing climate or drive over a 1,000 miles per week.

Remember the Dist. turns half engine speed & that engines normal usage in under 4500 RPM etc.

An HV coil would be the 'way to go' for the money.

Good luck, John M.....

Dear Luis;

I must have misunderstod your question.

I doubt that a "V type" distributer will fit in your 250. You could check with Larry/twisted six to learn more on this.

Changing this system would alter the 'smog controls' & cause you problems down the road however.

Good luck, John M......

No non of the V stuff wworks ONLY the cap and a few other goodies. The Dist itself Will NOT.Now it is to my understanding a Crank trigger can be used. And Right I'm not sure who it was That is going /trying this Route?? When I come across this info I'll be more then happy To Get it Posted up some where. }[oooooo]

In the mean time the only Up Grades are to go MSD or on the Lines. hope this helps

A couple of questions:

Is the 3800 a even fire engine?

And are the firing events spaced the same as the inline?

If the answers to the above questions are YES then with some work you can get the DIS system working, however, you will need an aftermarket box to do the timing.

A easier/better way is to use the Ford EDIS system off of a Ford V6 and then use megasquirt to do the timing control. The new MegaSquirt II board is almost ready and it has built in support for the EDIS system. You don't need to do the fuel injection part if you don't want to. Megasquirt is happy running only the ignition system. Once you have it dialed in going the rest of the way is not to much work.
