Alternator on my 1981 GMC / 250 I-6 is barely charging. The battery stays charged but it is at 12 VDC with the motor off, and only goes to 12.5 Volts with the motor running.
The power steering pump had leaked on the alternator some and I took care of that. I have TWO questions...
Would it be trouble to disassemble the alternator and clean it?
Is there a decent drawing or diagram of the alternator somewhere?

CRC makes a cleaner especially formulated for cleaning electrical parts. You can get it at O'Riley's and probably most other parts stores.

Thanks I have seen CRC in the store but didn't know what it was for.
I found some drawings for the alternator, the 63 amp 10si, at alternatorparts.com

Dude, its been many years since I pulled an alt. apart but don't remember any difficulties in doing so, even without drawings. I would take the alt. to a parts store and have them test it.

Been at least 45 years since I was last in Pine Bluff. S

It went out while I was driving in town today. I could not idle without the vehicle dying. I spent $50 on a new one... and decided to put "rebuild an alternator" on my bucket list.
