I need some help. I have this Sun tach and don't know how to wire it. I see IGN 12v, TRIGGER, and GRD which is fine but where to I hook the trigger? Does this go directly to the distributor for trigger or do I need some sort of amplifier box to operate this tach? Thanks.

Edit: This is a 1970 dated tach. I found manuals online for current production super tach II and there is no mention of a required amplifier. Would sure like some confirmation. Cool tach and I don't want to fry it.

The trigger is the points, grnd, self explanatory and 12 volt switched is for the light, your back indicates an 8 cylinder, if you pull the cup off there may be a slider switch inside to choose the number of cyl.s, 4-6-8.

Thanks!

Slider switch would be cool. I'll check it out.

Jalopy is right. With the stock wiring harness the trigger wire is green to telegraph the fact that it is never a 'hot' wire: The Ranger Station - Tach Wiring.

Thanks for the help. I'm glad I don't need anything else to run this tach.

Where did I get the idea an amplifier is required? Is that an older style tach that requires an amplifier?

The original 'electric' tachs from the late fifties and early sixties all required a transmitter box. In addition to their own power source (mercury cells) SunTach Transmitter Boxes contained some large transistors and a relay.

It wasn't until later on that this could all be miniaturized to fit inside the tach head . . .
