We attended the Great Western Steam Up to celebrate the 4th & the 150 Birthday if the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. LINK It was great so many Steam engines fired up at once! Plus all the train rides you could stand pulled by several different standard & narrow gauge engines, Also blacksmithing demonstrations,a steam fire pumper, a steam launch, steam mule, steam printing press, steam powered ice cream maker. access to the Nevada State Railroad Museum & shops. Food, beer, music......... all in one spot! The best event I have attended in a long time!

Happy 4th to all! Now if the illegal fireworks idiots in the valley don't burn us down tonight all will be well. frown

Beater, When we were at the Convention, Karen and I visited the Nevada State Railroad Museum. We talked with a couple of the volunteer in the shop. The lady volunteer was polishing the brass on a steam engine getting it ready for the 4th celebration. It was a great experience and a very nice museum.

Luke, I wish you could have seen this! So many friendly people excited about these engines. The best part was lots of them were young! I hate to admit it but I've lived here 50 years and had never been inside the "new" museum building. I've been on train rides & I've been in the shop and all over the grounds but just never inside. It was a great way to spend the 4th!

We enjoy going to Railroad Museum and have been to a lot of them around the country. Your is very nice and something to be proud of. If you ever get to St Louis you have to go to both the National Transportation Museum and I believe it called Union Station Museum. Both have great train exhibits.

There are a lot of great rail museums around the country. I like museums in general and visit some on every trip I take. So much to learn & see! I think it started with my youngest aunt taking all the cousins to the Panhandle Plains Museum in Canyon Texas at almost every family gathering when we were young. It got us out of our parent's hair so they could visit. It had the best gun collection any place short to Cody Wyoming.
