I just posted a few photos of some inliners I spotted at the NSRA Springfield (MO) Street Rod Nationals this past weekend.
There were several others there I didn't get photos of because of mother nature's "possible scattered thunderstorms".
Along with a coupla typical shots of the v-thingie guys scratching their heads at pappy's.

I just talked to the guy for a little while, he said performance was great, boost coming in at the top of low gear. (3 spd automatic) I think he said he ran about 14 lb boost. MPG was around 18 with a low 3's axle ratio. He told me about some modifications he had made to the engine, but i talked to so many guys i can't remember what he told me. I didn't think to ask him about the head.

As you can see (photos) the compressor discharge makes an abrupt angle leaving the turbo to enter the big "U" bend into the manifold.
Perhaps it wasn't possible with this turbo, but very frequently the compressor and turbine housings can be "clocked", or rotated, separately, without disturbing the center bearing, oil drain etc.
Clocking it 90° CCW would point the discharge up so it goes directly into the vertical leg of the U.
In this case, a CCW turbo with reverse scroll would have been even easier but not always available.

Add: most often the clocking intervals are limited to the bolt pattern; 6 bolts means it can be rotated in 60° increments only (to the next bolt hole).
That a stock Turbo Regal or turbo Trans Am turbo.

The owner just probably got ths turbo for hardly any $$$ & worked w/what he had.

No reason to be negative about a rat rod,,,to each his own.

I can say a lot more negative comments also,,but it is such a low dollar install, who cares.

Two cents thrown.

I can say a lot more negative comments also

Is that what you think, it's a negative comment?

My mistake - I thought I was explaining how someone else examining that would like to know what else was possible.

Here's a thought: why don't you limit your comments to the subject, rather than why I'm wrong?
OK,

Mr negative

Always talking smack.
