Can someone post some of the class records from the inliners????
Posted By: Drew, II # 4211 Re: Class records - 01/20/11 09:30 AM
If you join Inliners International pages of Drag and Land speed Records appear in every issue of 12 Port News. It's a 3 page list and would be time consuming to type in. Are you interested in a specific class?
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/20/11 03:01 PM
Scott, your car would likely fall into the CA/S class, which is an Altered Coupe class with an 8 lbs/ci minimum engine rule. Thats one of the classes my Camaro is going to fit into as well. The records for that class are 11.72 ET, and 112.24 MPH in the quarter. The Gas Coupe class could also be an option, but has a heavier 10.1 lbs/ci minimum weight. My Camaro is also going to fit that class with a smaller engine. The class for your car would be CG/S, and the record for it is 11.72 ET also, with no MPH record listed for that class. The rules for all the classes are listed to the far left column of this page in the "Racing" section. Hope this helps.

The current Inliners drag racing rules are posted under the 'Racing' link in the main menu.

Thanks guys!!!!

My car is a 65 Comet 2800# with me in it... The engine is a Destroked 300 (272ci) it has gone 10.96@120mph with side-draft Webers/ 11.14@118 with a single 4 barrel..

SCOTT:
What sizes engine are you going to run in your Camaro????
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 12:07 AM
I will run a 250+.060 in the Gas Coupe class, and a 292+.060 in the Altered Coupe class, that way my car weight will stay at around 2600 lbs for either class. It'll just be a little heavy for the minimum weight in the Altered Coupe class.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/21/11 01:03 AM

2600# is that with you in it???

I'm trying to take some weight off my car... Thinking of a cast crank (stroked 240) -20#, lite weight seat, chome-moly lower control arms/strut rods, lexan windsheld, and some hole sawing and mybe lossing some weight myself HA HA HA!!!
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 01:11 AM
Yeah, it weighed 3100# with a concrete filled Big Block in it with the driver and still ran 8.20's in the quarter. So I hope the 6 cylinder will lighten it up a bunch. It still has the stock seats and carpet in it, and the stock front K member also. I can pull a good 300# out of it pretty easy, plus what ever the difference in engine weight is in comparison. The previous owner weighed 200#, and so do I, so that much will be the same. Im putting a 5 speed in it also that will be a little lighter than the automatic he was running. Then I will look at some forced induction classes and move into that.

OK, since SIXGUN, & CnC-Dude are askin questions. Where would my pinto fall into class wise? production headed 300, tube chassis, should be in the 2100 lb area on gas.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 01:40 AM
Rich, you could be in the "B" classes of both Gas Coupe and Altered Coupe. The Gas Coupe "B" class is 7.6 lbs/ci, and the Altered Gas "B" class is 6 lbs/ci.

RICH:
If we could put my engine in your car WOW THAT THING WOULD FLY !!!!! At least 9.90s now that would be cool ...
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 02:56 AM
How much weight do you think you can get rid of in your Comet.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/21/11 03:09 AM
Not real sure??? Shooting for 150/200#... Already have lexan back and side windows, fiberglass hood, fenders, bumpers, trunk lid, light weight wheels, brakes, center sec, chome-moly cage...
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 03:19 AM
Are your doors still pretty heavy.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/21/11 03:55 AM

NO guted and hole sawed the bottoms, the hinges are thick mybe thin them out or make out of alum...
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 04:28 AM
Its hard to imagine your car being that heavy.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/21/11 04:34 AM

Well I'm a big boy 250#, the car it self is 2550#
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 04:38 AM
Well if you could lose 150-200# off the car, that would be good. Im lucky, a lot of my body panels are plastic.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/21/11 04:56 AM

I'm going to try to lose 50# my self...
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/21/11 04:59 AM
Good luck with that, its difficult sometimes to do.

I used to work for a guy who was known to build, by far, the lightest helicopters of a given type. I once asked him the secret to getting them so much lighter than others did. He said the thing was that EVERYTHING counts. Most people look for the big savings, but he said don't forget the small things, which add up if you can find enough of them. Even a 1/2 pound savings times many units will become significant.

Bob Glidden when he was running Super Stock said every ounce counts and used to take the change out his pockets, remove the guts out of the stock guages, every other spring out of the rear seat and add weight where he needed it.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/22/11 08:50 PM
Jalopy, are you going to have your dragster ready for any of these Inline races this season.
Posted By: jalopy45 #4899 Re: Class records - 01/23/11 12:20 PM
I'm trying to get the time, biggest problem is getting a new trailer, selling my 18 wheeler at he end of the month (semi retiring) so won't be able to use my 53 footer anymore.
Posted By: THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER Re: Class records - 01/23/11 03:23 PM
Check out HemiRambler's tilting, air-actuated, open trailer over on the HAMB. He hauls his FED with it and refused to go enclosed
Posted By: Nexxussian Re: Class records - 01/23/11 04:40 PM
Semi retiring. \:\)

I don't know if it was intentional, but good pun. \:D

Several of the bucks up guys at Bonneville use a trailer that kneels with air bag suspension (deflate the bags and the trailer squats) to transport the race cars around the salt (for any that don't know it's actually against the rules to drive a competition vehicle, under it's own power, anywhere but on one of the courses, so towing or pushing are the methods used to get them to and from the courses).

The tech wouldn't be that difficult to copy for someone of lesser finacial means than George Poteet, and should be very easy on the car while going down the road.

I would design in some removeable bump stops though, as I wouldn't want the trailer to loose an air line and squat going down the interstate. \:o

Dose anyone have pic's of the cars/engines in any of the classes
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 12:59 AM
Ron's truck is in the Gas Coupe class. Im sure you've seen those pics. The pics for the Altered Coupe record holder were in the issue before last 12 Port News, its a 50's Chevy with a 292. Maybe someone has pics of it they could post.

Yeah, thats it. He has the record in the aluminum head class with a Sissell 12 Port head. It's a 11.40@116.86 MPH in the Alterd Coupe class. Pretty fast for a 3000 Lb truck.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/25/11 03:14 AM

Ya RONS truck is going to F/N fly when he gets it dialed-in (I have to watch-out for him)....
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 03:58 AM
Maybe CI will have their new aluminum head ready before long and you could try it out. That should help you drop some weight off the front end a little too.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/25/11 04:56 AM

That would be nice!!!

Are you going to try one of those SISSEL heads on anything??? That would make one hell of a WING-ZINGER engine (250ci at 10,000 RPM)
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 05:21 AM
I will need to switch to an aluminum head for the supercharged class I am going to get into later on, its the CCA/A class in Altered Coupe. Depends on how light I can get the car. With a 258 it can weigh 2062, and with a 301 it can weigh 2408. As soon as I can get my tranny, I will start mocking up for headers, oil pan and engine plate.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/25/11 06:26 AM
Sounds like I need to watch-out for you now!!!!

Do you think it's going to take you a long time to get the car together??? You just need engine/trans??? What rear gear are you planning on (I run a 5:43 in my car)????
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 03:02 PM
Yeah, just engine and tranny is all I need. My rear end has a 4.56 in it now. I'll try it out to see how it works with the tranny I get before I decide on changing it. Keep in mind im shooting for 2600 with me in the car, so I wont need to have a real low gear.
Posted By: tlowe #1716 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 05:29 PM
Hope to have my other 65 Elco out for some runs this summer too. It is going into the shop real soon to piece it together.

This might be a fun summer for the inline folks.

Won't know the weight till it's further together.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/25/11 09:12 PM
That sounds good Tom, looks like there will be a lot of Inliner racing going on this year. Hopefully some new records will be set. Thats my intention with all the different classes I am going to be putting my car into(LOL). Maybe we will have some fun too :D.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/26/11 12:17 AM
You have an engine ready?? If so what kind of HP you think it makes??? Are you going to make mounts for a FORD I-6 also??? (TEST MULE)
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/26/11 12:28 AM
No, I have to start rounding up some parts. I have a 475-500 HP combo in mind for the 292 engine just as a baseline for that engine. I have a 450 HP combo for the 250 engine. Using several ET calculators for weight and HP, either of those should be likely to run in the mid-10's with what I will weight for the N/A classes(theoretically). But they seem to be fairly accurate from what I have seen other people using for their calculations. For the forced induction classes, I think I can get 800 HP conservatively out of either the 250 or 292. The key is going to be to come in right at the minimum weight, no sense carrying any extra if you don't have to.

I was going to build a Maverick with a 300 until I found this car. So I don't know how long the money tree will last. Im looking at building(4)different engines, and running in at least(5) different classes. Maybe one LSR class also, we'll see.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/26/11 12:42 AM

WOW!!! 475-500 HP BB I-6 / 450 HP SB I-6!!

I make around 410-420 HP with the Webers...
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/26/11 12:48 AM
Cotton and Jim ran Webers for a season or so, and did good with them, even set a lot of records. But when they switched to (3)Holley's and a sheetmetal intake they instantly found about 40HP, and then everyone else that was running Webers followed their lead.
Posted By: six gun Re: Class records - 01/26/11 12:55 AM
How BIG where the Holley two barrels??

I had strated to make a home-made sheetmetal intake, head flang and 90 deg turn ups out of 1 3/4 steel tubing...
Posted By: THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER Re: Class records - 01/26/11 01:12 AM
The most common two barrels were 350 or 500 cfm @ 3" hg. That equates to about 250 and 357 cfm @ 1.5 " hg. There was a rare 650 annular discharge boosterless 2V but I think they suffered from a poor signal.

Nowdays most serious racers are cutting up Dominators to make 2Vs.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/26/11 01:30 AM
They ran the 650's x 3. I wont need anything that large myself. Scott, I had a sheetmetal intake from Treadwell a few months ago off of his Comp 300. I think I still have some pics, i'll email them to you. It might give you some ideas on finishing yours up.
Posted By: nln6pinto Re: Class records - 01/26/11 01:57 AM
Hey Scott,
I have a Clifford intake with 3 Holley 500's that I bought awhile ago, that I'll probably never use if you're ever interested.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Class records - 01/26/11 02:03 AM
Ok, im sure me or SIXGUN would be interested.

OOOPPPSSS Forgot for a second both Scotts were on here, either way I might be willing to part with it or trade.

It is an extra setup,Been trying to collect all the different intakes for the big 6
