There is a new venue (short course) for Land Speed Record attempts. The ECTA (East Coast Timing Assoc)
has purchased time for high speed attempts at the old Wilmington, OH. ABX 9,000 foot runway this Spring. This is fantastic news as it is only 30 minutes from me. It is completely paved so it will be a hard surface racing. half mile run-up, 1 mile timed course, then an approx half mile run down area.
First race and time trials are in April 27, 28, 29. I will definately be there. Not sure i want to take the '40 down there as I will most likely be towing it home. I tend to have a heavy right foot. It would be nice to see what the top end would be?

Also, HotRod Magazine will be there filming thier HotRod Shootout for all street vehicles. This was an event previously held in North Carolina by the ECTA.

Here's the latest shot of my car all ready for the ECTA Shoot out in Wilmington, OH in 2 weeks.
I may get rid a few of the decals. It seems to be a bit too much.

Thanks Luke. I'll never forget the warm and great reception I got when I attended your Picnic some years ago.

For some reason when I see it in that livery, I think of moonshine.

Drew,

Funny you should say that. Originally, that car came from south eastern Alabama. When I was restoring the '40, I found lots of red clay inside the upper well wells and caked all over the suspension parts.
It had the "pass-thru"rear bulkhead too. Most folks said that was for the over-the-road salesman but some said it was for haulin' shine.
Yes, it is the business coupe model 85 master.

Looking good Rap Rap . . .

Just checked the website. It says -
Event Fuel: All competitors must run event fuel. We will be using Rocket Brand Fuel.

100 Octane Unleaded

111 Octane

118 Octane

Ever run 100 octane in your ride? Wonder how that works. Do you have to show up bone dry and then take on 'offical' fuel?

Too bad for me I will be hiking in the Smokey mountains. I will have to plan on checking this out some time soon as it is within easy driving distance for me.

Good luck.

Never have run anything over 91 octane in the '40. I'm sure it would love the rocket fuel but the valves would sure be warm!
Enjoy your hike. Perhaps during one of the oter events during the year you can make it over to Wilmington. Just let me know and we can hook up.

Bob do you have the 40 entered yet? I was told that the field was limited to 175 entries and it was full with a waiting list if there are no shows.

RapRap do you have a different E-mail address or have you moved? I sent you an E-mail a while back and it came back, so just wondering. Missed you at the summer picnic hope you can make it this year.

Bill,

Still here nothing has changed.
I have registered back in Feb. Hope to give it a go on Saturday.
Are you going to be there?

I hope to be, but won't have a car there. I put both of them in storage this winter so that I could clean my shop and I haven't even brought them home yet. May just take the truck down and watch if nothing else comes up. I went to the doctor this AM because my lower lip and tongue are swelling, got the great news it is probably caused by a drug he put me on several years ago. I hope it doesn't take several years to go away.

RAPRAP Did you go? Did you make a few passes with the coupe? If so how did it do?
Posted By: chopped 40 Re: New LSR & HotRod Shoot Out - 05/04/12 08:25 AM
Bill,
Yes I did go but the weather was poor when I was there. I did not run as the window opened and closed then I left early afternoon.
I will be returning for the next venue which is June 2 & 3.

Am recovering from shoulder surgery. It will be a while until I'm back at "rowing" through the gears.
It's Autos for me right now.
