What year did GM stop putting inlines in Camaro's & Pontiac Firebirds? Were they common? Were they gutless wonders , or reasonable to drive?

According to my local salvager's website (powered by Hollander interchange) 1979 is the last year for a 250.

After that they wound up with various V6s and as small as a 267 V8.

As for being gutless, that's going to depend a whole lot on gearing.


Shorter gears with an overdrive should help that a whole lot.

Check out the 320HP build in the High Performance section for a N/A 250, its being dynoed, and is pretty impressive. I bet that would blow the doors off of most any Holden down in Oz...if you call that gutless.

Without starting an international conflict... our local holden four door sedan can be ordered with a corvette motor...local fords have a turbo inline six , very quick & roadable. My query regards gutless is my mate from TEXAS USA, recon's
after 1971 most US style motors were smogged to death. A book I have on US cars 1946 to 1975 shows approx 45 hp drop from 1970 to 1975.however after 1972 it list engine option as D series, hence my question when did they stop making 250's

No conflict intended, just showing how the 250 can be upgraded to have this much potential, Also, the Holden's im referring to are the inline powered ones, not the V8's or any turbo powered inlines. Just when compared to others in those regards, it can hold its own pretty good.

& can't type for quids! So message often seen as blunt.Our local Holden inlines were only 202 cu inch no match for 250 chev or 292{as in my truck}after looking at this a inline Camaro or firebird would probably make a good daily driver.

It will make a nice driver and im sure a pleasurable one also. I was just ribbing on the inline Holdens, they are smaller cubes than the US engines, but they are surprisingly strong for their size. I guess Duggan was able to make some good design additions to them while he was there.
