Why does the BB no longer keep you logged in? It has you log back in changing from one topic to another. It's a Big PITA now.
Posted By: Beater of the Pack Re: Staying Logged in - 08/24/14 11:48 AM
I thought it was just me. I stay logged in for a day or so and them in not.???
Posted By: Titen Re: Staying Logged in - 08/24/14 12:32 PM
At first I had to log in every time I visited the BB, but for the last several days I have stayed logged in.

Tim
Yep I have to keep logging in.
Example: I log myself in, I am logged in , then I go to post something, then it says I need to log in. Happens all the time, but not every time.

It is now keeping me logged in or logging me in automatically or whatever but recently is the first time in a long time that it has worked properly for me. I like it. Also working very fast no delays.
Posted By: Twisted6 Re: Staying Logged in - 08/24/14 08:39 PM
Yep had to re-Log in again. And like Hank said even to make a Post You have to Re-log in. It has been this way now for about 1-2 weeks.

Strange. I have been logged in for ages, including now. Works fine for me.

regards,Rod.

I never had any issue up until the revamping of the BB. Now it's it can remember that you check the box to stay logged in.

Honestly it don't matter It's Just a PITA sooner or later It'll
just be one less board to deal with. whistle crazy smirk

Posted By: big bill I.I.#4698 Re: Staying Logged in - 08/26/14 09:20 PM
I was having trouble with several web sites then I dumped IE and started using Firefox no more problems. I have had the best experience that this board has ever produced since the change. Prior to that it had got to be such a pain that I had almost quit posting.

Ok. Yeah I could probably get more done also if I spent less time on the forums too. Hate to see you not hanging around as much as you used too anyway.

Me too! I need a life! laugh
Posted By: Beater of the Pack Re: Staying Logged in - 08/31/14 11:00 PM
Today I had to log in again???
Posted By: walpolla Re: Staying Logged in - 09/02/14 09:34 AM
There seems to be no rhyme or reason about the site randomly logging us out. I have been logged in for ages, and yet sometime in the past 4 or 5 hours it struck. Out with him it said.
Lets see how long it lasts this time.
And - no - I haven't done any computer clean up in all that time.

regards,Rod.
Posted By: Twisted6 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/02/14 06:50 PM
Well since my last post in regards to the logging out or in. I was logged the whole time up until yesterday. Logged in went to one post to another and had to log back in for each topic I went to.
And had to log in again tonight.
Posted By: tlowe #1716 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/02/14 11:40 PM
Mine will never stay logged in either. it does not matter which computer or explorer/ foxfire.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/03/14 01:31 AM
The "Bench Racing" forum is the only one you can't see until you log in, and there is hardly much new discussion on it. So I rarely log in at all unless I have something to say or i'm checking messages.
Posted By: Twisted6 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/03/14 06:25 PM
Had to re-log in again tonight. So what is the log in bugs???
Posted By: big bill I.I.#4698 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/03/14 06:38 PM
I have not had to log in since the first time after the change. I had all kinds of problems be fore they made the change.
Posted By: big bill I.I.#4698 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/03/14 06:40 PM
The only other thing that I changed was I got rid of McAfee about the same time as the change so maybe that made a difference.
Posted By: Twisted6 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/04/14 06:36 PM
Had to log in 4Xs just to read 4 different topics. Another words each time I went to Or tried to read another topic I had to Re Log in. What a BS PITA.

The log in BUG has now caught up to me....!!!!
Posted By: tlowe #1716 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/09/14 11:45 PM
This is on the wed about UBB threads. We need to get cookies enabled.

The UBB.threads™ software, in order to function normally, needs to keep track of users’ activity in the forums. For example, the “who’s online” feature requires information on which users are currently logged in. The software can accomplish this tracking using one of two different mechanisms: browser sessions or cookies.

You can determine which mechanism is used by changing the variable in the config.inc.php file that looks like this:

// Do you want to use sessions or cookies to track your users

// values = "cookies" or "sessions";

$config['tracking'] = "cookies";

If you set the variable to “cookies” (the recommended setting), then your users will be recognized by the UBB.threads™ software and will not have to log in each time they enter your community. The cookie will stay in place within the user’s browser until it is deleted by the user.

If you set the variable to “sessions”, then user activity will be tracked using browser sessions, and your users will have to log in each time they re-open their browser. Additionally, if you are using the “sessions” variable, you need to secure the “sessions” directory, either by placing it above the web root or by requesting that your web host make it a non-browsable directory.

Tom
It is not just a log in issue I don't think so anyway. Because it
also Logs you out from one topic to another. At least that is some of the issues I have been have along with the staying logged in. After I leave the Broad and return. Even after checking the box that says KEEP me logged in. And I don't have this type of issue on any other BB not even My own BB. Just here and here alone.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/10/14 07:19 PM
Those that are members of my forum may remember when I had an issue shortly after I got it up and going several years ago. I purchased my UBB forum software directly from the person that developed it. A few months into the forum everything ran fine, then without warning it couldn't be accessed and was acting crazy. After getting the UBB software developer and my webhost provider on the phone with each other to resolve the problem, it was determined that changes made in the webhost's support network after I had the forum going those few months, were now no longer able to support the needs of the UBB forum software. So I then had to switch host providers to a company that was compatible and able to support the needs of a forum, which was also the same company that designed the software, UBB Threads. No more problems since then. Never assume that all host providers are capable of supporting a forum, it's needs are much different than having a run of the mill website.

I could not get to this site for two days. I tried again a few minutes ago and had no problem but I can't post on Scott's site on the regular forums. I guess you can't have everything. grin
Yep, it's like the website was never there.

What happened?

I also was unable to access site for a couple of days and had to sign in today, prior to that it had been working fine for me. We shall see what happens now, maybe it is fixed for everyone.

It's pretty clear that this is not a transparent administration. laugh
Posted By: Titen Re: Staying Logged in - 09/14/14 11:24 AM
The website was down for a couple of days because the new hosting company had an issue transferring the domain name, I'm still in the dark as to when the actual new website is going online.

Thanks Tim. It caused me to do some disc repair and cleaning of my hard drive so some good came of it. smile
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/15/14 12:14 AM
My communication with the UBB Thread people have indicated that it is the Internet Explorer 8 that is the conflict with so many having log-in issues or being logged out once you log in. They suggest trying Google Chrome or Firefox instead. I use Chrome and have yet to experience the log-in issues others are mentioning here and on other UBB Thread based forums. It can also randomly affect the ability to post in certain threads while allowing you to in others. The only solution at the moment is to not use Internet Explorer when browsing on UBBThread based forums.
Posted By: tlowe #1716 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/15/14 12:18 AM
I use IE and Firefox from different computers, and get the same non logged in results.

One other thing I notice. Take a look on most topics, when people reply there is a Note in the upper left of each post that says who you are replying to. Most of the time it is saying just one persons name. Even though the replies are to different posts and people. Weird.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/15/14 01:12 AM
I bought a new computer several years ago and the default I selected was Internet Explorer. I came home one day and it automatically changed during one of its updates to Google Chrome as being the default, and will no longer let me even use Internet Explorer if I try to. At first I was pissed because it changed without me doing it, but I eventually grew to like it. It seems that Google Chrome is immune to these gremlins that others are having by using IE. Firefox, it was mentioned is not entirely resistant to this problem but is better than IE8, but Chrome seems to be. So I would just try it and see what happens. So far for me I haven't been logged out on here and I purposely stayed on when I shut it down last night just to see what would happen.

My Mac uses Safari. It changed to Google Chrome when I updated the system software a while back and that ticked me off. I changed it back but have never had any problems until the recent ones.
Posted By: CNC-Dude #5585 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/17/14 03:05 AM
I heard today that the Inliner's site had been running with half of it with one host provider and the forum portion with another host provider, and that was what was causing the log in issues. It should be taken care of now. But still, UBB Threads still recommends Google Chrome as the first choice and Firefox as the second choice, but not IE8 if anyone is trying to use it.
Posted By: big bill I.I.#4698 Re: Staying Logged in - 09/17/14 10:00 AM
Everybody I know that is in the software industry says they never run IE-8 on their own units. I switched to Firefox a couple years ago and love it, no problems. Also I was a devoted McAfee user them Microsoft bought it out and I started having problems changed anti-virus providers and problems went away.

I have been running windows 7 and Explorer 11 And do not have any issues with any other BB.
