Thanks to all for the engine advise. The car is showing up Wednesday so I hope to be getting going soon. a couple of questions regarding mods:
Is anything necessary to deal with unleaded gas?
Are bigger valves worth doing?
Any favorites on cam grinders? This is going to be street driven but a nice lumpy idle would be cool.
Due to the chassis date (1924)I think I'm going to run three updraft model-A type zenith carbs, but that's way down the road so by the time I get there it might be almost anything. You never know how these things are going to turn out.

as i understand it (and i do NOT claim to be an expert, but i've been reading a lot), these engines use stellite valves and unleaded gas is no problem at all. it seems like i've also seen that there isn't much room to work with regarding bigger valves, and people tend to stay stock. i also think edgy cams does custom work to whatever your heart may desire.

good luck, and keep posting! i will probably be tearing into mine late this spring.

I used stainless exhaust valves (stock size) from Vintage Power Wagons, as an added measure of saftey with unleaded gas. The block should have hardened valve seats from the factory, so nothing to worry about there.

I'd also recommend Earl Edgerton of Edgy cams for your cam grind, he can be contacted from his website:

If your valves are in good shape, I'd just clean them up and put them back in. If they need replacement stainless is fine. The stock engine with its hardened seats and valves should run fine on unleaded gas. I am running stock valves in my 265.

Last I heard, the Edgy head was going for around $650. They've gone up a bit since I bought...

Edgy heads are $650 plus shipping total - $350 deposit and he quotes a 12-14 week wait. He's been keeping me updated on mine and it sounds as if I'll get it way ahead of schedule.

Can't wait!

Tortise-

Thanks for posting the correct price for the Edgy head.

I spend a few hours hanging out with Earl Edgerton and his crew at Bonneville Speed Week and watched his rookie first run in his '32 Chrysler coupe. Super nice guys, and an awesome car.

Pete,

More info on Edgy's car please! Cool video, and a great sound! Does he have a 6 into 1 header of some kind, or?? Your car looks and sounds great too! I'll be passing thru your area on Monday, but have no time to spare, Boise to Blackfoot in a day with sales stops is a long one!

Thanks!

Nick
