I'm looking at a 1980 C-10 tomorrow. It currently has a 302 V8....I'm prolly gonna drive it until I can put together a complete 292 L6 & an automatic. My question today is about when motor mount towers between the engine and frame. I know the 292 mount is further forward on the passenger side. Will I be able to move what is currently in the truck? Will I need L6 specific motor mounts?
Any guidance will be appreciated!
After thinking about it, the engine is likely to be a 305, not a 302.
A lot of Chevy cars and trucks have multiple bolt patterns on the crossmember for different engine choices. You may be able to pressure wash and clean the gunk off of it to see if yours is also.
Well, I picked up a 1980 1/2 ton Chevy pick up today. C-10. Came from the factory with a Oldsmobile Diesel 350. Has the original engine, but has been converted to gas. Woot woot!
I'll look for the mounting holes tomorrow.
Well, I finally scored a 292.... Heard it run before it was pulled from a 1976 C-20. Didn't smoke and no unusual noises. What was the topper, not only did I get the motor mounts from engine to frame, I got the plates that bolt to the frame the motor mounts bolt to. I'm excited because if the existing mount plates in my 80 aren't compatible, I won't have to chase anything. I'm so pleased I am finally making progress on this project. Oh, I also scored a 700R4 a couple weeks ago.... Woot Woot! Hey Tom, I'll be giving you a call soon. I'd like to get together soon.
Nice, hope to talk with you soon.
