Your probably right!

Why not start with a easy 250/292 cover?

???

I posted a reply earlier, now it's not here.

I said it looks nice, but if it were me I would likely go with a coil cover like the Quad 4 had, with the Art Decco GMC logo in the middle and fins.

My 2 cents:

Larger radiuses, more curvature, more height at the back, deeper fins, more dramatic plug wells. Maybe even wavy fins or a big 4200 boss on the side? A cool piece here could sex up that engine big time.

Here is another concept... As a variation the center area between the 2 humps could have a cover plate added to hide the coil on plug ignition coils.

I dig the second one! Looks much better than the first one in my opinion.

Really like the 2nd one and LOVE the idea of hiding the coil packs.

I might be turning into a 4200 fan. Have read nothing but amazing facts on these engines. How much trouble would it be to fit into my 65 Nova?

What if the coil cover blended in so well that it just looked like one big piece?

That could be done.... I'll have to find a stock late model coil and measure it...

What about making it where the top of the cam cover area is even with the timing drive.

It would look like the old 2 stroke Detroit rocker covers.

One restriction you run into is a lot of the older chassis that orginally came with a inline have a recess in the firewall. The 4200 is wider than the early iron and if you increase the valve cover height good chance you will run out of recess height in the firewall.

That's a good point,I wasn't thinking of that when I posted earlier. \:\(

If there was enough interest the next steps would be :

Get the stock cover digitized the allow it to be imported into the CAD system, then starting with the actual flange pattern design the lower then upper sections.

I would probable get one routed out of wood to validate the design.

Once proven then the pattern design can be done. Patterns made and initial castings done, machined and test fitted.

My vote is still for the 2nd one, and hiding the coils.
