Going to talk to a man this Saturday about an aluminum head.
What do I need to look for?
What would be a good price? (came off a dirt track car)
Would it be good for a street car with a 292 or 250?
Can I still get parts for it and what parts would I need?

Any info will be very helpful! Thank You!!

There are only a few different Al heads out there.
Sissells
Duggan
Deppe

The older Duggans used a shaft mount rocker system, later models had pedestal mounts.
Most of these heads have small combustion chambers.
Things to ask for.
Pushrods
headbolts
Intake
exhaust
Valve cover

Many times a large valve spring would cut into the intake throat with vibration. Just something I have seen on a couple heads.

Get pics if you buy it or not.

And does it use a stock cam, or need relocated lobes...

Hey Tom,
have you flow tested your aluminum heads yet?
If so, what did they flow?

No , not yet.
Have heard from another guy, the older duggans flowed somewhere around 250 cfm. That is from memory.

What size are the intake valves?

Mike K. had told me the Sissel/Duggan head intake flows pretty good, but the exhaust flows worse than a worked over factory cast iron siamesed cyl head.

OK did not get to go see the man about the head.
Called him before he left the shop to go racing.
Said he got the head it was (Machinest special).
It was a bare head. He put V8 valves in it.
He has valve cover, intake, exhaust fla. May still have valves and roller rockers and cam he had for racing.
He wants $1600.00 for it and said he would have it checked out for me before I got it.
It is a Sissell head and has 2.08 intake and 1.65 exhaust.
So for a hot street car (63 chevy II). Which head, a Iron or Aluminum?
Buy it or not too?

It's up to you if you want to buy it.
I like to have something a bit different & has more potential than a cast iron head.

Make sure you get all the parts for it. Rocker arms, valves, retainers etc, etc.

It will put you in an elite group of people having a rare cyl head, most guys will not know what that cyl head is.

What is nice about aluminum is that it can get repaired fairly easily with welding if it's cracked.

Take some pics & post them here if you can.

No, did not get it. Think I'll stay with a stock head.
