I am thinking about buying a 1957 Dodge truck with the flathead six. I plan to try to get the engine running and keep it if possible. I suppose that I will be on here trying to learn all I can about the engine. My past experience has been with Chevy 235 and 261 sixes.
I believe the Dodge engine is a 230. Anybody else on here running a 57 230?

My first car was a '57 Plymouth flathead six. I think it was a 216 version of the same engine. It always performed smoothly for me, although I was afraid to pass school busses. Have fun with it.

Very durable engine, long service life, some known mods, hot rods were made by swapping the similar but not interchangeable Chrysler-DeSoto-Dodge truck 237, 251, 265" flathead (known as the 25" engines, the Ply-Do was the 23" engine).
Replaced by the slant in 1960.

'57 was the last year that Dodge/Plymouth tweaked the 230. A new head casting raised compression ratio to 8:1 - CarNut

Eddie Edmunds made a twin carb manifold that would fit these engines.
