going to build a 292 .Want to bump up the combustion and run flat top pistons .Heard that you can use 283 pistons in it .I know that you can use 307 in a 250 wrist pin is the right height , but not sure on the 283 pin being right height for the 292 Does any one know for sure thanks

The 283 compression distance is too short.

wont work, skirts too short too. I used 9:1 propane pistons from summit racing and decked the block 30/1000. I didnt take much from my head but you could easily get 10:1. I removed 100/1000 from a 250 and never had an issue.

The 292 piston is extremely tall, nominal compression distance is 2.055" for zero deck.
Every other Chevy piston is much shorter and won't work, the 307 is 1.700".
Very important: using a lower piston doesn't just reduce compression, it destroys quench. For best results the piston must come to within .035-.040" of the head @ TDC including the gasket thickness.
To calculate compression distance:
CD = deck height of block - (stroke ÷ 2) - rod length

I was at Tom Lowes open house last Saturday and he had racks of pistons for 292. Might get a hold of him.
