Just wanted to throw something out there.
I have two motors of this family.
One is a 230 with head number 3895052- this had a port for a temp sensor gauge on the left side, towards the front (just posterior to intake port #1)

I also have a 292 with head number 3872708 - which i believe is a head from a 230 if I’m not mistaken. This does NOT have this temp sensor port... and instead uses a port on the water intake housing alllllll the way up front.

Why the change in the same family of motors? And, should i want to use my original temp gauge (54 Chevy 3100), can i just swap these heads (my assumption is yes)

If i can figure out how to upload pictures from my phone, i will!

I just reread the GM archive on the 1967 Chevelle. Starting in that year the thermostat was changed from 180 degrees to 195 degrees. They also moved the temp sending unit from the thermostat housing to the cylinder head because that location “is the hottest part of the l6 design” either place will work, but the head will read hotter. I hope this helps. Jay
