Hi All,

Again, reaching out to those that have gone before me...

This may not be the right category and am willing to repost if necessary.

I have a good situation that has lead to questions. The area, in which I live, was flush with GM inlines. I took the opportunity and I now need homes for 2 292s,3 250s,1 230. I'm not looking to sell but to find platforms for them to live.

I am looking for thoughts and suggestions on where I should put these. Needs to be street legal. I would like something with an open engine bay. I like the look of these engines and think they deserve to be seen. I want it to be as light as possible for obvious reasons and a platform that these can drop into with minimal work. I am open to inexpensive kit cars, non GM cars, non US.

Many 20s and 30s roadsters are a great option and have the look but some have to be hacked because of our 6s are long. An early Nova (Falcon, Dart, etc) would be great but it hides the engine? I know Chevy started putting inline 6s in starting in 1929 but their cars started getting bigger too.

Am I asking for too much? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Pics welcome.

Long live inlines!

Regards,
Rick

How about a 49-54 chevy pickup. Lots of room under the hood. I'm putting a 292 in mine with a 4-71 blower. There are lots of parts available in original and speed parts unless you go like me but I'm far from normal.

Actually Chevy lengthened the chassis in '28 thinking the six might be ready. Up through '34-'35 they were good hot rod material. The wood is an issue. I am repairing the wood in a '26 roadster right now. I'm also building a 292 to replace a worn out 350 in my '68 flatbed. Closed engine bay but these are at home in a tough little truck.

What part of Nevada?

Mick53,

That style of truck is beautiful. I have a 65 C10 and C20. They have a similar issue, in the fact, that running with no hood doesn't really show off the engine like the roadsters of the 20s and 30s or MGTD with the hood and side panels removed.

Hi Tom,

Good info. With your tip, I did a little research. I had no idea how much of the early Chevys were wood and what it takes to restore them to original form. Since we're in the same general vicinity, I would love to see the '26.

I have a friend with a 28 cowl and VIN. He is really good at metal work too. Maybe build it in all metal...Though, it would probably be less work extending the bay of an A or a T roadster.

As far as closed hoods. I have a couple of good candidates. I have a 1965 C10 (292) and a 64 El Camino (haven't decided). The El Camino was a V8 car. The C10 was a 292.

Regards,
Rick
