I am looking for someone that can help on some Wayne 12 port information. I have a friend who just purchased a car with a 12 port engine it is a cast iron head with spark plugs under the intake ports it's listed on the register under Hoyt Wallace # 1207 here in St. Louis.
I would like to know if the engine is a GMC or a 261 Chevy I think it's a 261 has a full flow oil filter. Last time i seen one I was very young about 1960, my brother had a 261 in his 50 chevy at that time.
My first inline engine was a 292 in 63 or 64 and have been racing those since, started Turbo's in 1983.

I hope there is someone that can help me, or give me a name Please: message me, call 314-489-8266, or email harrystirneman@gmain.com

Thank you
Harry

Hi Harry . . .

Not much expertise on 12 ports - but I know my way around the online archives of the club. Here's an old page with a listing of owner/location of known 12 port heads.

#1207 is listed in the cast iron Chevy section. One thing I do know is that the original 12 port heads were cast for use on the dipper/jet engines (15 head bolts). The new design head for the Corvette 235(full pressure) has 18 head bolts. Many of the 15 bolt heads found homes on the older 235 Hi-Torque engine - and some even went so far as to rifle drill the old cranks.

Quick and easy ID. If the engine is a GMC the flat behind the distributer will be stamped with the cubic inch displacement. 228, 248, 270, 302. (or the two weird ones) A 261 Chevy will have the "captain bars" cast in the right side of the block above the starter and below the side cover.

You can find out what you need to know about the Wane & Horning heads by clicking on & reading the 12Port history at the top left of this page.
