I've been looking for specs on the Tornado and later Torino 230ci OHC motors that were built and sold in both US and Argentina. I'd like to know what changes were made when the engine was renamed "Torino". Is the Torino motor more or less oil leak prone? Also, what is the deck hieght, bore spacing, valve sizes, etc.,.... Did anyone convert the engine to a 12 lobe camshaft or did the TC racers continue to run a six lobe cam?

I have been reading the M715 sites AND I have found several good Argentinian IKA-Renault Torino and IKA Jeep sites but I have not found any highly detalied specs for the Torino version of the motor. I'm pretty keen on finding out the differences between the two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if you have one of these engines, i feel sorry for you! they are the weakest, most trouble-proned engines ever put in a 4wd vehicle!

for years, i worked for the army in depot and battalion level maintence and no engine gave us more problems than the engines in M715s. it's been many years since i've seen one and good riddance!

a friend, who had a pristine M715, fought his for several thousand miles before he got an adapter and installed a 250 chevy six. after that he had many trouble-free years of service out of it.

the transmissions, transfer cases and axles are almost indestructable, so just about any engine you'd install would be better than the original!

a few years ago, out in texas, i met a fellow with a diesel engine in a surplus M715, he also claimed to switch because of early original engine failure.

others might have better exoerience than i've had, with the kiaser ohc, but i haven't met one!

Lord, let me live long enough to do all the projects I have planned!

I don't have a Tornado 230 but I'm looking a buying a car from Argentina that has one. I may have some "Torino" long blocks shipped with the car if the later model motor is that much better. I would like to have the seven main bearings and higher compression of the Torino 230 just don't know that much about them.
