i notice in a lot of the vendor cat. that they sometimes list engine parts for 235/s from 54-59 - intakes/exhausts manifolds/ carbs in particular and do not list the same items as fitting the 235/s that were put in the 59-62 models. i know 54 was the first year for insert bearings. i know the water pumps are different and even though the distributors are the same the points are different. are there other differences that i need to be aware of in particular when searching for duel intakes and or duel exhaust systems for a 1962 engine. (1/2 ton chevy pickup)

Fitting the engine, and fitting the engine in a particular vehicle are two different things. I am not directly familiar with the 60-up trucks, but if there is a problem in using the 53-62 Offy manifold in a '62, it may have something to do with the firewall or pedal linkage or column shift linkage??
You may want to ask Jim Carter truck parts or Patrick's about it if nobody else chimes in...

A '54...
Any dual or single carb intake will fit...
BUT, not all will work with Fenton headers.
Some small amount if grinding on the bottom inside edge may be required when using an Offy intake, I have been told that the newer water heated Clifford 4bbl. intake will not work at all, but the earlier exhaust heated ones will. Tom Langdon may know more on this.
Keep in mind that any 37-62 intake COULD be used, but that the earlier engines had a slightly smaller intake port, so machining them out to the larger size would be needed. I don't remember off hand what the sizes were, I can look later if somebody else doesn't chime in. Nearly all of the extinct brands of intakes were for the small ports, so take a tape measure with you. Even the Offy intakes are still being made for both port sizes, so watch out there too.
Most tripower intakes will require modifying the firewall and support rod...

Hay Ed....I have the Offey intake with the Fenton hedders on my 53. I also have the water plumed to the intake for heat. I'll show it to you at Decatur when we meet at Wall Mart. See you there.

sounds good TRyan - i plan on bringing my camera and taking pictures of different set ups. i don't like the idea of buying something and then getting home and it doesn't fit etc. i don't have a shop to manufacture things in.
