Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 250 oil mess

Hello,
I have a 1968 Chevy C-10 with a stock 250. In preparation for putting on an Offenhauser intake and a four barrel carb, I plugged the vent on the side of the valve cover and replaced the oil filler cap with a vented one. Would this cause oil to spew from the dipstick tube (I think that’s where the oil came from)? Has anyone experienced anything like this? Will I have to somehow re-plumb this line when I put the four barrel on? Thanks.

I am not exactly clear on what line you are talKing about, but it you are refering to the vent that you pugged on the left front of the valve cover then you wont need to re-plumb that. You may have so much blow by that some of it is venting out your dipstick tube. Are you sure that the oil pressure line fitting/sender (just above the dipstick) is not the culprit.??

Thanks Dan--I thought about blow-by. Yeah, it's the vent on driver's side of the valve cover toward the front of the engine. I hadn't thought about the oil pressure line-thanks, I'll check that.

CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP when the fuel pumps start to go bad Theywill Blow oil all over the side of the block OR they start to leak fuel into the oil pan.
