finally got it in sat night about 1 am. fired it up on wen morning. it started up easy and got the cam broke in. i was really amazed at how easy it started, the timing was very close. i will try to post a couple of pictures of it before i put it in. man it was cold that night if i had only been ready a week earlier. i still have a few bugs to work out with the intake, i just used a stock one for the startup.

Dear HR;

I hope that fuel filter is temporary. Mounting them there is very dangerous.
Best to mount on the R-side away from the hot exhaust.

Looks good otherwise. \:\)

Clean up the intake, alternator housing and fan spacer and you'd be good to go. \:D

Otherwise, looks great.

thanks john, glad you reminded me about the filter i need to rework that line anyway. oh no, need to make it too pretty i already got antifreeze down the front after a fitting broke on the temp gauge. i started it back up on thurs after i retourqued the head. i am thinking of getting a carb kit for a rochester b for my 64 truck. i am without wheels except my wifes car till i get the carb that i temp put on this one. i need to change the rear brake line and temp bolt down the seat and i can drive the 63 i put this engine. it is pretty rough another reason not to pretty up the intake/ alt. \:D but just like my 64 it had set for years. the 64 was free for hauling it off and the 63 i made more money than i paid for it selling junk off of it like the v8. ;\) i was just so glad this started so easy i didn't want any probs with the higher lift cam. and the temp never got over 180 deg, i guess that was 'cause it was cool outside. i can't wait to see what what it will do.

yes i do need to get some more tools scrap. i am the only one i know with a small, med, and large cutting torch; a small, med, and large metal lathe; a fourth set of your standard sae combo wrenches, and a milling machine that prob weighs as much a my truck. now with this 292 out of here my wife can stand in the garage at the same time i do. it's a disease my wife tells me but i'm not seeking treatment yet, i guess i haven't hit bottom. ;\) i also forgot to say a big thank you to everyones advice the shell rotella, and the gm eos were the stuff to use.

Yep..the old Rotella is about gone. Still can find it in qts. around here. The new stuff (container has yellow and blue on it and dated 2007) has a lot less zink. The old stuff is in a blue and white can and dated 2004. I have at last got our G.M. dealer here to agree to stock the EOS. I have 12 qts.of the old Rotella put aside as I plan ONE MORE motor build next year for a Bonneville project then "thats it" I then move into the "been there ,done that" mode...SCRAP
