I know GM did large cap HEI on 250's in the 80's but did they ever do a small cap HEI? Can a dist from a FI 4.3L V6 be made to work with a 250?

I am interested in this kit http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/chevy-system.htm from affordable fuel injection but I want to run it on a 250 with a small cap distributor, I am just trying to figure out how to get a small cap Dist to work on a 250.

Can a large cap 250 be made to work with FI easily?

I like what Megasquirt does with there computers but I really don't need all the fine tuneability of it and this kit offers all new components for what it would cost me to run a Megasquirt & a junkyard system after all the components were rebuilt.

This kit seems to be more user friendly for what I do and easy too.

The link you provided says

"This system includes a complete TBI conversion plus a custom HEI distributor for complete fuel and spark control."

I'm thinking your opening a can of worms if you don't use their "custom HEI". Whether they have one or not for a 250 is a another question. I have a 4.3 distributor I think and there is a difference in shaft lengths. I have to look at again to see if it could be made to work, but if they are supplying the distributor there is a reason. Let me know if that 4.3 distr will help.

I have emailed him to find out what options are available for his TBI setup to work on a 250. He emailed me after seeing a post on another board about looking for options for FI on a 250 so he knows the app. I emailed him this morning so sometime tomorrow he will reply to my email.

The stovebolt small cap HEI doesn't say it works with the 250. It says 216, 235, 261.

i use a large cap hei with electronic spark control with efi. the factory application is 1982 chevy pickup 250-292 with california emmisions. it is available from all parts vendors ie: napa, autozone ect. just trade in your old one as the core. tom

So you are using the Cali-emission dist with your EFI. Does it connect right up to the system and your set or does it need modified? Are you using a standard TBI system?

So what I am gathering here is I can use a junkyard TBI setup from a 4.3L & the Cali-emission dist from a 250 and I am set on FI components?

that is correct, you can use a junkyard 4.3 tbi and the calif dist will plug right in. it has the large 4 pin plug. i am using a home brewed multiport injection with electronic spark control. with the 4.3, it would be nice to be able to tune the FI and timing yourself. tom

Tom does offer a small cap HEI that works with the GM 250. It's not listed on the website. I have one with an external coil. If I remember correctly, the cap actually comes from the Chevrolet 2.8L V6 engine. Give him a call.
