I am trying to swap a six into my 68 GMC 4x4. The truck currently has a v8 in it, so I am a bit lost on the motor mounting of a six. I had originaly planned on a 250 motor, but had a 292 dropped in my lap so its going to be used. The only problem I see so far is the engine cradle in the truck would need to have one of the mounts moved forward a few inches. Soooo, is there a company that makes a bracket to move one of the 292 engine mounts rearward to match the trucks crossmember? If not what about a piece of steel plate bolted to the block and streching rearward so that the mount could be welded to it and bolted up? help.....

What about finding the proper bracket for your truck? It might be a little hard but fabricating would be a lot harder.

GM allready drilled the holes for you, you might as well use them. If you look on your crossmember (passenger side) you'll see the two holes where the V-8 and lil'6s bracket is bolted on, there should be another hole a few inches in front of those where the front bolt of the 292's bracket bolts on.

Now all you have to do is find the proper bracket, because unfortunatly this was unique to the 292. I'd check out the local junk yards, ask for places that have old chevy trucks siting around. Anything from 63 on with an origanal 292 will do you. You could also place want adds on the clasifieds here or on chevy websites.

I feel for you, I was lucky enough to get the brackets and everything else when I upgraded from the stock 230 to a 292 on my 63 chevy.

Hey, Post a classified ad on this site and The Stovebolt Page. Must be a couple hundred V8 guys out there tripping over the things. Good luck!

I heard one of the '67/'72 chevy truck part vendors carried it for about $50. for the front righthand 292 mount. Try GMC Pauls' or Tom Langdon's Stovebolt parts. A good piece from the junkyard would be cheaper, of course.
Good luck on your project. I'm thinking of putting a 292 w/SM465 into a '72 K/5 that was originally optioned w/ 350/350 set up.
