Gentlemen;
I recently ordered a clutch assembly from my local NAPA outlet. Although it said it was "pre-ballanced" it took 1/2 ounce to ballance it to my, ballanced flywheel.
When I went to pick it up I observed "made in China" and it dosen't look like my l962 era truck clutch. I am very skeptical of this running 5500 RPM under my legs.
Anyone have any experience with this???? John H. Meredith, #3370

My feelings exactly. I am having my clutch rebuilt and then ballancing it.
Thanks, John M.

John,
I feel like 5600 RPM on one of these old diaphragm clutches is a bit risky, no matter where it comes from. I had one come apart at about that RPM - the pressure plate split into about 5 big chunks and it was some fun job working all this debris out of the bellhousing. The clutch shop told me I was lucky it wasn't worse.

I have ran them past 7000 as most know. But I have also ripped the straps off them. And That is there biggest weak link. And these where Ram clutchs. But also by the same token They where 3000 lbs setups But not ment for whatI was doing to them. Dropping the hammer at 5000 rpms. And I have seen What a stock one can do. I had a good friend lose both his legs Because he wasn't running a shattersheild. And the clutch came right up thought the floor and Out the drivers door. enough said about that. the diaphram maybe the easiest on the legs as far as pressures go but not always the best/safest Because they do have there weak link. }[oooooo]
ps just my 2cents
