Question time...Patricks kit (shifter conversion) for a saginaw 4 speed into my 54 Chevrolet truck with 55 driveline (open driveshaft). The incoming transmission (saginaw 4 speed) has 27 teeth on the rear spline, where the old 3 speed had 16 larger teeth. Where can I find the correct driveshaft yolk for the new transmission?

It also appears that the speedometer cable nipple needs to be quite a bit shorter, ideas?

I think all of the later Chevys (after about 64??) had the fine spline all the way up into the late '80s. Except for the TH400s. Joe

You may want to get your rearend sorted out first, because the pinion yokes varied in width over the years, and if you find it necessary to have a driveshaft made/modified, you might end up doing it twice. There are special u-joints made to help connect dissimilar yokes together, just for reference should you get into that position. Whether one exists for every mutation, I couldn't say.

Not to worry. Visit your friendly local driveshaft maker guy and tell him what transmission you have. He can provide the correct yoke and let you know how he would like the measurements taken to make you a new driveshaft. Have your new rear in position and the pinion angle set before taking final measurements. He'll want to know what rear you have also. Draw a picture with the measurements.

The yoke you need are all over Ebay. I just pulled out the Saginaw for the T-5 and yoke was the same. I'm sure this yoke fits all the automatics as well, should be cheap at the local bone yard.
