Does anybody know the gear ratio for 1st, 2nd, and overdrive for the Saginaw 3 speeds from around 1955 to 1962 Chevy models.
Also, were there more that one gearing sets for these old 3 speed OD's ?
I don't even know, if these were all Saginaw or if some were Muncie ??

Dear Ed;

The ratios are the same as the 3 speed W/O overdrive and there was only one choice.

The OD ratio is 1 to .72. A 28% reduction.

Good luck, John M....

Hey Ed,
The Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual for 1955 second series lists the "standared equipment" 3 speed gear ratios as
1st...2.94 to 1,
2nd...1.68 to 1,
3rd...1.00 to 1,
reverse...2.94 to 1

Hope this helps.
