I would like to put a 292 in my 1962 C10. Can I use the original transmission mounts at the bell housing along with side engine mounts on the 292, giving a 4-point mount? I would like to retain the '62 hydraulic clutch and I believe a 60-62 V-8 bell housing would work with the 292. If that is possible, what are my flywheel/starter options? Also plan to use a Saginaw 3-speed/OD transmission. Thanks for any inputs.

do you have a belhousing starter on the truck now? and if your talking about using the original trans mount with a 292 engine yes you can. and you have a hydraulic clutch in a 62 c10? wish mine did it's got a low gear 4 speed with pto shaft and 5.14 gears. and yes that bellhousing will bolt right up to the 292.

The truck has a 235 now, but I want a bigger six. I'm considering a 292 or a 302, whichever seems easiera ns which ever comes along first. I just want to know what is involved with each swap. The truck does have a hydraulic clutch, with the clutch lever and slave on the passenger side of the bellhousing and I would prefer to keep that set-up rather than change to a mechanical linkage clutch.

Go with a 261 then. It will "bolt right in" with all of your 235 parts/acessories. Patrick's could help with GMC 302 info, parts & service. With a 292 some of the V-8 parts may work as they were an option that year as 'Tig' suggests. Good luck.

Yes, the 261would be an obvious choice, but from what I've seen they are scarce. I've only seen one listed for sale near me in the lat 5 years. I think the 302 would also be a relatively easy installation, and if I find one of those before I find a 292, I'll prpbably go that route. With the 235 installed, and no fan spacer, there is 3.5" between the fan and radiator, so there should not be any serious clearance problems. This is a long term project, but I have learned from my '57 sport coupe that it is never too soon to plan and gather parts.

That's right, take your time & 'plan it right'. Tom's will have a 292 or know where to get one. His # is: (918)542-3871 (mid western time). Hang in there.

I saw an ad some time back from a guy near Roanoke, Va who had 194s, 230s, 250s, and 292s for sale, but can not find it now.

Just look in the phone book for truck salvage yards in your area if Tom doesn't have one.
