I recently replaced the stock 3:90 rear axle in my '59 Chevy panel with a rear axle from an 86 4wd suburban. It fit very close on the spring centers, my 2 problems were finding a good way to connect the brake hose and finding different wheels to match the big rear brakes I now have. Both are now solved. I do want to share something about the driveshaft. There is a "changeover" u-joint available that connects perfectly the different yoke spacings from 2wd and 4wd. The GMB number is 215-0356.
