I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get some surgical needles. I needed different guages, for use on a water injection setup. Thanks. John.

Why don't you just use brass carburator jets ? Easy to get, many orfice sizes to choose from and you don't have to explain to the police what you want them for.

Try someone like this http://www.mistcooling.com/nozzle_cost.htm
You can get them individually at your Home Depot. When I built one 30+ years ago I just used a windshield washer nozzle and a needle valve to adjust the flow. That's the key to needing only one size jet. And don't forget to add an oil pressure shutoff switch from a Vega or Omni so the system doesn't run with the key on and engine off.

I was going to set up a system just like this. http://website.lineone.net/~da.cushman/misc/mannject.html I'm kinda skeptical, as to whether or not it will work. I won't lose any money though (except for needles and hose). The only thing I'm lacking now are the needles. I gave some thought to the carb. jets, but I don't see how I could plumb them. Thanks for any help. My mother had told me to try a feed store, or a Pharmacy (Wal-mart), so I might give those a shot also. Thanks for the help, and let me know your thoughts if you would please. Thanks. John

You are uncorking a vacuum line so you introduce a vacuum leak in the engine. If it was a little rich you might see an increase in mileage. If you want water injection for anti detonation I'd go with a windshield washer kit with a nozzle in the air filter lid and a vacuum switch to turn it on.

I played with this over the years and even tried using fuel and nitro methythane before racers went to NOS. Also tried a container pressurized with air, there by giving a fine spray---Plan on burning up or warping some valves.hehehe If you're looking for horsepower it's not worth it and if your having detonation problems, I'd look at carb jetting, ignition curve and even cam profiles( increasing the duration helps)--Just my opinion -Paul

I'm not having any detonation problems since the engine is basically stock. I was looking to experiment with the water injection (pros and cons) mainly for sh**s and giggles. I want to keep the engine clean internally, and see if it'll pick up any gas mileage. I won't be uncorking a vacuum line. The water line will be tied into the vacuum advance line with the needle. As long as the needle orifice isn't too big I shouldn't run into any problems with too much water getting into the system. The water will have a vacuum being pulled on it, so the boiling point will be decreased. The water should turn to vapor pretty quickly. Again, this is just to experiment. I thought it would be cool to do since it's really low cost.

I think I might use needles from basketball, soccer, and football pumps. I think I should be able to manipulate the size, so I can tune it. Not to mention the threaded end will fit well in a hose. All thoughts and advice is appreciated. Thanks. John
