I have a 65 chevy 2 4dr. with a 194ci six. I was wondering what I could do to get more power and speed out of it. I am on a limited budget. The engine is ready for rebuilding so I thought that I might as well make it better instead of going to a v8. thanks. any links would be helpful. Also I'm from Maine and was wondering if there was any clubs for novas or such.

A few years back had a 63 Nova with the little 194. Bolted on a swap meet Offy intake and a used 390 cfm carb and it turned that little motor into an animal. Well a well mannered type of animal, but what a differance in performance. You don't need the Nova club, they don't like inline motors, stay right here. Infact we need a Chapter of Inliners up in Maine.

If the 194 is tired than maybe now is a good time to go hunting for 230 or 250.
Even bone stock you gain 35 hp going from 194 to the 250. (but save the 194 head!)
You need to find a block, oil pump, and pan set up for a front sump.
Plus side is that you can drive car for a while until engine is ready to go in.
I made this mistake with my Chevelle, rebuilding the 194 when the car really screamed for a bigger engine.

The 230s came stock in the 66/67 chevy2s Also some came with 250s Bu tthat was mostly in the 67 on up yrs. But how ever any 230&250s will go in. If you do not want to go and drill the block after swapping oil pans & pick up tubes You can dimple the oil pan at the drag link area and it will clear. I have not had a chance Yet to try the New pan I have been working on ,With a notch in it to go around the Drag link Like what they make for them Vthigs. But i have been running the same oil pan that I dimpled since 1984 with out any problems Or oil leaks. hope this helps. }[oooooo]

The 194 is in good condition, I just wanted to rebuild it and make it better. I can't find any 250's up here. If i do, maybe, but i'm on a limited budget.

I have a few questions. If I got a 250 block what would I need to do to make it into a full engine? Could I use all the parts from the 194ci? Or would I need all new pistons and stuff. Also were can I find them and for how much? I live up here in Maine.
