I have an 848 head on my 57 235 now. Runs great however, I always want more Power. I found another head in good shape and was wondering what the best modifications are to do to the extra head. Porting, polishing & bigger valves? What should I do to it to get the best possible performance? Thanks, Bob

Dear Bob; This has been 'asked & answered' many times. Sisell's in Covina does a complete job for around $900 or you can go to the 'search' section on our site, as well as 'tech tips'. Good luck.

Bob ~ There is an excellent article on reworking the 235 head at http://www.selectric.org/55chevy/soup.html Look at "Test #4" on page 18. Actually the complete article is VERY GOOD reading. I have been told before that the article is old and outdated. "BUNK" The motor is old also, so it still applies, in my book. Besides that how many knowledable people are doing new research on the old 235's and 261's for STREET usage ??? Just people like you and me that want to keep the old things running good. And I admit, I'm an amateur. It's a little hard at first to follow it but after reading it about 30 times I finally got a hold of their process. They used this head on the 261 but the same process done to the head and bolted to a 235 block would really be the berries. Let me know what you think.

Ed, I really enjoyed the article. The timing of the article (1955) would indicate that it may have been one of the last in depth studies of this engine, with the advent of the small block.I think it was very well written and the pics were good. Thanks again for posting.

Hey Ed, Thanks for the link. Great article. I have read it B4, but it was a copy & I missed a lot of stuff. Nice clear pictures on that. On a different note, This website is very interesting. I read an article on this guy in Pop Sci. last year. Great idea. I think I'm gonna try it on an extra 848 head I have and then note the difference. Thanks again, Bob
