anyone have experience with refurb of 6-v radio including adding FM? FM is activated by a 'sequence' of power off - power on with a 'wait' in between (these steps conducted on the stock AM panel).

Bob's Radio Restorations has an answer. He does refurb of Six volt radio with FM "capability" added.

FM is totally different from AM. Your best bet is to use the case and put a new radio in. I got a chrome cover from a 1950 Coronet that fits perfectly on my 1949 3-window business coupe (ebay $10). If you're using 6 volts, you're out of luck since FM wasn't invented until after 6 volts was obsolete (1970's I think).

Dodgeflat6, for all practicle purposes you are correct, but for historicle accuracy it should be noted that FM broadcast goes back to the '30. It was a broadcast war between two of the radio giants of that time, there was an excellent program about it on PBS. I have never seen an FM radio in a 6 volt car, but would never say there wasn't any such critter. Bob

I stand corrected. FM stereo did not start until the 70s or so. If you're willing to settle for mono, your best bet may be a police radio or AM to FM radio converter, but you'll want one from after the end of WWII, because before that, FM was in band now occupied by television.
