The lifters I got for my motor are standard "stock" hydraulic lifters - I am running a relatively hot street cam from crower and am wondering if before I go to final assembly if I should think about the "High Lube" lifters from Crower?

I am using Crower roller rockers . . . not sure if this info is neccesary but figured I'd add it anyway.

I run what is called a metered lifter. Because it is my understanding you Do not what nor do you need a high flowing lifter. Reason being is it can just flood the top of the head/block and Not leave much in the pan?? And I'm pretty sure this may become even more of a issure if you running a high volume oil pump. Which also is not realy needed The stock pumps are just Fine even in a high RPM motor. So my 2cents on this would be stay with the stock lifters, Or give Tom Langdon a call At stove bolt. Hope this helps

Hello, the first thing should be said that there is a lot of differance in the quality and hardness of replacement lifters, so there is a question whether the lifters you have are compatible with the cam's hardness. Second the stock lifters will just not perform as well as the performance lifters. These cam manufactures, believe or not are not trying to Rip you off and actually know what is the best components to use with the products. They spend lots of dollars testing this stuff before they put it in a catalog. You will with out a doubt sacrifice performance and possiblly cam life if you do not use their specified lifters and valve springs. No pun intended but, if you trusted Crower enough to by their cam, call them and check it out with them. Why take a chance in losing a whole motor over mix-matching very critical motor parts or a few bucks saved?Just my opinion---Paul

Well Put paul . I did think about that .I normaly buy mine as a full kit. But the 1 main thing is you do not need a high flowing lifter. The valve train doesn't need a flooding of oil even with roller rocker. I just didn't give it much thought about the hardness difference over a stock/aftermarket cams One would think they would be hardened the same. And Most all lifter are made by the same company They just have different Names to who are selling them. Becuase there are very Few different companys That make the lifters to start with. This is why for awhile It was hard to find any solid lifters for chevy. because they just were not being made. There is mort to this story as to why or what happened but i can not remember at this time.}[oooooo]

Ken,I have been using federal-mogul ht-817 lifters in all my engines for years.I am using them in my buick|nova with a comp cams cam that has a 584 int 600 exh lift ,crane roller rockers and 325 lbs.of open spring pressure. The engine has been together for a year now and no problems-good to 6000.If you are in doubt you can NEVER go wrong using the cam manufacturers reccomended lifter. You do not need a hi volume pump in these engines.
