I swapped a 1980 integral head motor for a 1968 pickup motor. It has a TH350 in it. The starter that came with the 1980 block will not fit the 1968 block. I know about the offset bolt style that is not tapped in the 1968 block. I went to the local starter repair and he said all i needed was a housing interchange with a straight across bolt pattern, he did it and it will not fit? How many teeth should be on the flexpate? I put the same one back on that was on it.I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!

Were the blocks equipped back then tapped with the offset starter mount? The ones that were Automatic transmision/ motor equipped? I just got back from the starter Guy and he is clueless! I think i just need to pull the motor back out and tap it for the offset starter mount. I know that it fits in, it just only has one hole to mount to the block.

well i have searched the situation in the past posts and come to the conclusion that i have the right starter( inline holes),but i need to replace the bigger flexpate with the smaller one one(which i picked at the local auto store) I will replace tonight and go from there! I am not a 100% sure but if i beleive in what i read is correct, it will work!

The smaller flexpate with the inline bolt pattern starter did the trick!
