Can anyone tell me how to get the key assy. out of the ignition housing on a 64 chevy nova. There are two small holes on the right side of the key that goes in the housing. Please help.

u need to put a pen or wire in it then turn the key, if i remember right

i just changed the one in my 64 truck. first i unpluged the wiring harness and took loose the nut on the front side of dash that holds it in.then it can be slide out back of the dash this made it easier to work on. mine the key had to be in the off position. i then inserted one of my larger torch tip cleaners. it presses a small plunger type piston behind the hole- you can feel when it is engaging it. then turned the key backwards and pulled out.i put the key in the new one and it pushes in andtwists into place. hoggyrubbrer

Hoggyrubber is right, but if you only want to get the innards of the lock out and not take the whole thing out of the dash, try this. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the lock position, all the way to the left. You can used a torch tip cleaner if you have one handy, but if you don't, take a medium sized paper clip and unbend about a third of it, then put the end of the part you just straightened out into the small hole next to the key slot and push gently. You should be able to feel it move slightly, then turn the lock cylinder to the left and pull it toward you and it should come right out.
