Hello guy's, my gmc 302 engine is only hitting on #3,4,5,6, cylinder, #1,2, when you pull wire off #1,2 no change in the way it runs. I put an HEI dist in that I bought from Tom Langdon, for the 302 engine. I have real good compression, all new wires,and the engine has been rebuilt new head . This has my head itchin, Sign, need help Eric

Dear Eric;

If it was okay with the low voltage unit, then there may be a defect in the dist cap. 40,000 volts has a way of making It's own path sometimes.

Start her up in the dark & see if there is a "light show" somewhere.

Usually; when two cylinders (next to each other) missfire there's a head gasket problem.

Did you install new plug wires with the HEI? If not then I suggest a set of "sprial core" magnetic suppression wire - way better than carbon core.

Also make sure that you use silicone grease on the inside of all the plug wire boots.

The added zap from the HEI has a tendency to eat old carbon core wires - the carbon breaks down inside the wire and the required voltage to jump the gap goes up which makes matters worse.
