Have rust spots in bumper chrome. I don't know of a fix except rechroming. Do you? I don't know of any way to completely remove all the chrome from the bumper so that it could be painted instead of rechromed except for sandblasting. Do you? Thanks Ray

I don't know just how bad your rust is But you and use a piece of steel wool and a can of coke to remove the rust If it's not REAL heavy. And other then sand blasting to remove the chrome is to use a grinder if you plan on just painting it. hope this helps

I dont know if they still do but plating shops used hydrochloric or muratic acid, or reverse current in a chromic acid to strip for rechromed bumpers. You might check with a shop and ask if removal includes the nickel underbase. Otherwise your probably ahead by blasting or grinding and sanding.

Hi Ray,

My brother used to own a body shop some years back. I would work there summers and after school as a kid. We used to have this special primer that was yellow and had a clear catlyst that you added to it, that was called etching primer for priming aluminum and I think chrome. Today there has to be something better than that. I would call a independent body shop and ask if they can paint chrome, that will give you the info you need.

Good Luck

Luis
