I am in the blasting buisness and I find walnut shell does not remove rust very well as it is not abrasive enough,I use 60 grit silica with no problems on any thing older than 60's era vehicles,no warpage etc.,but everything you dont want to blast must be well protected and cleaned well afterwards,you may end up with a few holes here and there but if so it was deteriorated metal and should be replaced anyway.Once something has been sandblasted it should always be coated with epoxy primer prior to painting.
