Hi,
I just bought a 79 chevy C-10. It has an inline 6.( my first inline) I have a few questions but I will describe what I can see first.

The rocker cover has 2 humps with PCV valves in the top of each hump and 2 metal pipes coming out of the sides. I was told that it is a California setup. My question is where can I get a diagram showing how to connect everything. Some of the hoses are missing. I would like to set it up properly.

The guy I bought the truck from says it has a brand new carb, starter, front and rear brakes, and master cylinder. The factory air has been removed and the engine compartment is nearly empty.

One more question. He said he was driving the truck last week and the rear PCV valve blew out of the valve cover. What might cause that?

Thank you for any info.

Bill, Congradulations on your first inline.

I would suggest you get a factory service for your truck it will you the most information for setting it up. Sounds like you have an integral head, most of the later inline sixes from Chevy had them. If California was first then you may have to get a supplement for the smog.

The PCV valve blowing out is not a good sign. Get a service manual and run a compression check, soon.

Thanks for the info. I have a Haynes Manual for 1967-1987 chevy pickups. Not much help though. I cant find any pics/info on running hoses and such. I will try to make time to create a webpage this weekend so that I can post pics of the engine. it runs decent but only gets like 13 mpg on the highway. Im hoping to get better gas mileage after everything is reconnected properly.

Thanks again for the reply.

Bill,
I found my 1984 service manual on ebay, see them for your trucks year allot. Good luck, also there is a site called ChevyTalk
http://www.chevytalk.org/threads/ubbthreads.php
They also have a forum for your truck.
I like and use both this site and that one.
Take Care

Bill, just out of ciriosity, is your motor also blowing/leaking a lot of oil? Do you have to add oil often? I ask as the original 300 in my truck was doing the same & also would blow the PCV valve out of the valve cover (had to zip-tie the thing into place). You may have excessive blow-by like I did. Most likely blown rings or a cracked piston. I haven't had the chance to find out what was going on inside the old 300 as the motor is 1000 miles away (still have it though). Don't know what your situation is, but I really needed a running truck & so instead of pulling the original engine I ended up yanking a running 300 from a wrecked truck & just did an engine swap. I intend to rebuild the original engine later. You could probably do the same & find a decent running 250 to swap in as a lot of guys yank a good running six for a bent 8. Hope this helps & you don't have the bad luck that I had.

I know Im not leaking oil, but Im not sure if it is blowing oil. I have only had the truck a few days. I checked the oil today and it shows full. I just happened to get my current issue of Chevy Hiperformance and included Inliners International in an answer to a readers question on page 16. So I put down the mag and looked it up. Its a great site with lots of info. Maybe I will keep the six instead of dropping in a 350.
