Ok guys, first post here. I Just filled out my membership application and I am ready to rock. I sold a Buick Skylark bumper on eBay and the couple who came to get it gave me an application. The minute I mentioned that I was thinking about putting an inline in my 48 Chevy truck the guys eyes lit up! A super nice guy, Kevin Scott was his name.

Anyway, here is the story. I bought my truck in 1974 when I was 15. It had the six that you see in the photo with a three speed and a 55 Chevy rear with 3.70 gears. My brother and his friend had made the intake in metal shop class at the local High School. It was a poked 235 to 250, 1959 motor. It had a 55 Chevy four barrel and a "3/4" race cam with home made headers as well. I soon chopped the top on it and put a muncie in it. It ran 16.48 at 85 MPH at the local drag strip (Fremont Drags) and I was hooked on inline sixes.

Well, I dreamed of building some killer 292 and all that, but it never happen. My family was big into Buicks and one day, that is what it got, a 401 Nailhead. "No replacement for displacement"

It was mounted mid engine by the way. In the last photo where it is red, that is the oil pan you see hanging under the center of the truck!

Anyway, the thing has been apart for a number of years and I am just now getting back to it. I had planned on a 440 CI Nailhead (poked 425) but I just recently came to my senses and I am returning to my inline past. I am selling all my Buick goodies (worth a number of bucks, should get me some cool six stuff) and I am going to start collecting inline goodies.

This is how I see it, I would LOVE some radical exotic 302 GMC or something with a Wayne head or something like that. But I want it more practical and to be honest, a little less money.

This is how I see it. I think I am going to go with a late 250 or even a 292, but I unless I find one without a big hassle, I think it will be a 250. Backed with an S-10 five speed and probably an 8" Ford rear, maybe a 9". I am thinking I MUST have multiple carbs, I would LOVE three side drafts (God I love the look of a side draft). I am thinking of making the intake just for the nostalga. I want a ton of aluminum, side covers, valve cover, what ever I can get.

Where do I start looking for the goodies for the motor is the first question. What are your opinions on this idea of the 250?

By the way, the second photo is of the truck today, chopped 4" and sectioned 2.5. The front is on a Camaro IRS and the back is too high. But that is all going, I have a stock frame on the way. I am probably going to go with a Mustang II front.

What do you all think? Thanks for listening and any advice you can give.

Ok, I just found Langdons on a thread here on the forum, awsome headers! How about those side covers? They don't have photos for crap there, are there any other sources?

Thanks for the responses guys. Gmc, I have, they don't have much for the driver, most is for serious horse power. At least from what I see, maybe if I gave them a call.

You know that twin engine rail on their home page? I saw that car (STUNNING CAR) at Sears point (Now called Infinion raceway) a few years ago. I waited around a few hours after I had planned to leave just to see that car run. It was worth it, just a beautiful work of art.

Walt, the Camaro sub is just so darn wide. It really limits the tire and wheel choice. I also don't like the looks of it, I want something cleaner. But, you have given me an idea, I think I'll take another look at that idea.

Your truck looks cool. I learned to drive in one of them. And yes I miss Baylands too.
Keep an eye on Ebay. I've seen those ribbed side and valve covers come up from time to time.

As a side note Brian,aka,MARTINSR, is well known and acknowledged over on ChevyTalk for his bodywork/paint knowledge he shares with everyone.I hope he doesn't mind that I spilled the beans!

Brian is also over on the Stovebolt board, which makes sense due to his killer truck.

as far as valve covers and side covers, Larry, aka Twisted6, is in the process of designing, milling, welding, etc. aluminum valve covers, and side covers. might be worth taking a look.

Is the nailhead sold already? I would love to come look at it, if it isnt gone already.

My brother is "Mr Nailhead" and pretty much has first dibs on it and the aluminum goodies I have.
